Lol @ everyone suggesting it's because we're jealous.

I hate camo sniping for two reasons. One is because it's a cheap, minimal effort way for someone to get kills. Just because something's in the game doesn't mean it's a good idea. It certainly doesn't mean it's well balanced.

What's equally annoying, however, is the camo sniper on your own team. You want to know how many camo snipers roam the map and push with your team when appropriate and provide cover/weaken enemies/clean up kills? None that I've ever encountered. They all just sit at the rear-most point of the base taking half an hour to line up each shot. It's an utterly selfish playstyle because it prevents you from using an AA like Sprint that would better allow you to support your team.

I've also never seen anyone good do it, but that's probably correlated with the above point.

It's just really annoying.

Just like banshees.

We cant see you if you are anywhere out of the range of our radar. Banshees are only in btb playlists. Snipers are in almost every playlist. If you can become invisible off of spawn, you can get more kills than you deserve.

This shouldnt have to be explained to you

And so God called Moses to come forth but he came fifth and was therefore disqualified.

Selfish? So? As if anyone nowadays is a team player...minus actual BTB teams. So what if it is minimal effort? That is smart? I'm not going to go prancing around with my DMR figuring out the hardest possible way to get kills. Why don't I just stand on my head, stick my hands in my mouth and 5-shot with my armpit hair?

Just like somebody without camo can support your team with the sniper, someone with it can as well.

Lol. I doubt you're ever going to see past your obsession with your own genius at picking the easiest way to try and get kills. Yes, well done, Captain Obvious.

My contention is that it shouldn't be in the game. I'm not going to blame you for picking it, I'm going to blame Bungie for not thinking through the ramifications of adding the AAs they did in the first place.

I'm not going to go prancing around with my DMR figuring out the hardest possible way to get kills.
If you were good with a sniper, you wouldn't need to rely on Active Camo, and you could use sprint to increase your positioning ability and be more effective. Feel free to have a minor fit at this statement, but it's true nevertheless.

  • 01.08.2012 11:30 AM PDT

I'll tell you why.

You can suck an ass at sniping. I can be good at it.

So I outsnipe you when you grab your team's sniper because I'm better. So what do you do? You choose camo and snipe me because I can't see you. Not because you're better at sniping, but because you chose camo. Then my only option is to choose camo so I can snipe without you sniping me.

Do you see how lame that is? Camo from spawn is an unbelievably stupid idea.

C'mon. I've generally considered you as at least a reasonably intelligent forumite, but calling my statements straw men belies a complete lack of understanding. Yes, the point that I've never seen a good player use AC to snipe with is purely anecdotal, but irrespective of that, a good sniper with Sprint can support your team much more effectively than a good sniper with AC, especially in the context of lolBTB.

Except I don't rely on camo.

Of course it is obvious! I may be "less honorable" with my "easy kills" but I have way more kills than you do.

But that makes them smarter than you, because they used advanced strategy. Don't you see?

Oh yeah, my bad. Choosing camo was an incredibly intelligent tactical decision on their part and nothing to do with their inability to snipe. Sorry, I should have seen that one.

camo sniping is a tactic. and most of you that say its noobish are the ones the also uses it because you know you do. " I do ! " and thats a fact.

<-- doesnt invis snipe. It is not a tactic.
Tactic: An action or strategy carefully planned to achieve a specific end.

Becoming invisible to shoot people who dont know you are there is not carefully planned

Absolutely not.

AC and Sprint do the same thing; Sprint gets you from physical hiding spots faster and Active Camouflage makes it.

Again, absolutely not.

He showed foresight and chose an ability which compliments his playstyle, then you get mad when he inevitably crushes you.

Camping at the back of a base is not a beneficial playstyle tto your team.

I have never been beaten by a camo sniper by the way.

  • 01.08.2012 11:46 AM PDT

Never seen a good player who uses camo/snipe without being forced to by the other team doing it beforehand.

Yet regular snipers do it all the time, and it's not against the rules for a camo sniper to advance.

I have never been beaten by a camo sniper by the way.

Clearly it's an effective tactic then

I don't care about my team, as they never care about me. If I ever join a BTB team, I will do my best to support them, but for now its all lone wolf.

Besides, If the gametype is slayer, then how am I not helping my team by getting 20 kills, 0 deaths?

LOL I can't take you seriously after this

He didn't show foresight or choose an ability to compliment his playstyle.

What he did was chose AC and hoped his team didn't grab the sniper before him, before sitting at the back of his base with Camo because if he didn't choose camo he would get his head ripped by any other decent sniper.

This right here really demonstrates why you fail to understand. You can't see past the simple mentality of "sniper hide, sniper get kills" The point is nothing to do the best "hiding spots". It's to do with moving to the appropriate location to support and cover your team when they push (or retreat with an objective). With the default lolReach speed, good luck with that.

That's just weak. Surely you have something better?
