Subject: The Bible holds the answers...

First of all, this thread is not a theory, but just food for thought and a place for those who have theories concerning Halo 3 and the Bible to post.

I have noticed that of all of the theories concerning Halo 3, the ones involving the Bible make the most sense. For instance, look at the battle of Gog and Magog in Revelations, look at John 1:6-19 (Spartan John 117 anybody?), and look at the Biblical references to the Ark and the Flood.

IT ALL MAKES SENSE.

Anyway, I just thought that you all should know, and if you do have any theories pertaining (forigve me if this is spelled wrong) to the Bible and Halo 3, please feel free to post here.

EDIT #2: To clarify, I am not a Bible thumping, christian religious fanatic, I simply have noticed many correlations between the Halo storyline and the Bible. There is a difference in talking about the Bible in a religious context and talking about it in a purely analytical one.

EDIT #1: Wow, after reading some of your posts, more and more things are starting to come together. For instance (this quote from SwordandShield's theory) :

"Then God's temple in heaven was opened, and the ark of his covenent was seen within his temple; and there were flashes of lighting, rumblings, peals of thunder, an earthquake, and heavy hail."

This does so much to explain the trailer (when coupled with the fact that as SwordandShield pointed out it fit perfectly with the blowing of the seven TRUMPETS in the book of Revelations), and I'm sure even more and better theories are on the way.

Keep up the good work. :)
Maybe we can make some solid guesses at the plot of Halo 3...

Nice studying........thats very interesting.......also just a thought but when cortana talks about being his shield, his sword, and how the world ends that could als be a biblical refrence. like that could be the armor of God and im not sure about the end of the world part but ill look a little harder.
Good Work

PS non religous guy u really should go to a church or something like cortana said the worlds coming to an end.

here is my theory... http://bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=6915577

I am not sure if this theory has been stated before but I will give it a shot. *I did not know there was a similair theory in this forum, but there are differences.* I typed this up in the New Mombasa forum before I realized the WE ARE THE FORERUNNERS thread was typed up. This makes more sense than the Noah's Ark theory because with the Arc of the Covenant described below would make you invincible which would keep you safe from the flood.

Alright everybody knows the covenant believe in the forerunners which are most likely the humans. And with this said, us as humans, our forerunners are our prophets....Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and so on.(sorry if any of this insults you) And every Christian has a great journey, to receive all the sacrements to get one step closer to heaven. We must abide by God's laws which are the Ten Commandments.

Now since the covenant have prophets (the messenger of their god) they would typically be very religious. To keep their culture and religion alive the prophets must prove to the rest of the covenant that their god does exist and they help guide them into seeking that. Which would be their "great journey". So this is when they meet up with the humans and this creates war. AND we all know most wars have been caused by differences in religion and total control of the holy objects.

As we all know the Arc of the Covenant or AKA the Ten Commands suddenly dissapeard. Covenant means promise. Hence the name covenant for the enemy and hence the name for the prophets Truth and Regret and so on. So now as the evidence adds up it is possible that the covenant have the same religion and same god as us. They believe they must find this arc to find peace for eternity in their heaven and it proves that their religion does exist and the laws the covenant follow are correct. Hence the name great journey. Now most philosophers and archiologists believe the Arc of the Covenant or AKA The Ten Commandments is located somewhere near the middle east and the North Eastern/Eastern tips of Africa. That would be where New Mombasa and zanzibar is located and just to add this little detail in, Mount Kilimanjaro. That explains the area cheif was located at in the Halo 3 teaser. Very barren, and dry. The Sahara or maybe even the Sahel or Savanna since there are trees in the background. The Bible notes that the Arc of the Covenant is so powerful and holy that whoever touches and looks at it will instantly be disintegrated. In the Old Testament, in Joshua chapter 6, we have an account of the Israelites defeating the city of Jericho when they came into the Promised Land after wandering in the wilderness for 40 years. The Isrealites' army and their high priests carried the Arc of the Covenant and with this, the Israelites marched around the city once a day for six days, on the seventh day they encircled the city seven times. On the seventh time around, the priests blew the trumpets, the people shouted and the walls fell flat. That explains why Bungie is always talking about the number 777. The Isrealites walked around the city for 7 days, on the 7th day they walked around the city 7 times, and on the 7th round trip the high priests blew trumpets and the people shouted. That explains 777. That may also explain the trumpets in the Halo 3 teaser. Then the wall magically fell down and they won the battle. Whatever army containing the power of the Arc of the Covenant remained invincible as said in the Bible. This may be the arc, the Covenant are looking for.

So therefor my educated guess on what the arc is and where the arc is located is around the middle east and the northeastern/eastern tips of africa. And the arc is The Arc of the Covenant. So basically the covenant have the same god and religion as the forerunners or the humans.

there is also the factor that with the flood, in the bible, a few pure souls survived. Everyone keeps saying that the Flood and this big battle were started just like the flood of the bible, to clense the world of impure souls. Maybe some people will survive this attack? while all others perish? Like the chief, who is a pure soul? Also, the name Demon...and Gravemind.
'This is not your grave, but you are welcome in it...' Anyone think that this guy could be something big? Someone who determines who dies and who doesn't?

i think the universe will be destroyed by the flood except for the few who survive in the ark. just like noahs ark

  • 05.12.2006 4:04 PM PDT

I have posted this theory before, but I believe this is a good place to post it again. In the Halo 3 FAQ it says,

"Q What's up with all the trumpets?

A Could it be triumph? Or a musical exclamation point to signal a finale? It could be all kinds of things, but Marty is really outdoing himself this time."

I believe there are many trumpets because the storyline is somewhat following the Book of Revelation. There are seven trumpets that play in the preview before we see the dome, which I believe is an important fact.

In the Bible in the Book of Revelation it says in the passage of The Seventh Trumpet it says,

"Then God's temple in heaven was opened, and the ark of his covenent was seen within his temple; and there were flashes of lighting, rumblings, peals of thunder, an earthquake, and heavy hail."

All that we did not see in the trailer was heavy hail. This passage could say that the dome is the Ark, and in the Bible when it is seen the Dragon (the Devil) comes to conquer the world. The next passages are Michael fighting the Dragon. The Devil or Dragon could be the Prophet of Truth, and Michael could be The Master Chief. Because the preview is 1/3 through the game, the fighting could all happen that is in the Bible.

I did a little research and i think i might have found something..
ok there are four gospels in the books of the bible: Mark, Luke, John, and Mathew, but then later there is also 1 John, 2nd John, and 3rd John. That equals 7 if u didnt get the hint!

I like the theory, but I think its too much. I think the theory should was referenced to create a new story, I just don't think Bungie made the game based on a Religion (because that can really start a problem).

I agree with your theory but with a different twist.

The Gods the Covenant believe in are us, but they don't know it. A former version of us. We were the Forerunners and to clense the galaxy, we lit the rings that we built, and left to the Ark to escape the Flood (sound familiar) in which only few survived (our Prohpets like you stated above {i.e. Jesus, Moses, etc.} and they knew that in time their history would be forgotten as they were set back into a "stone age" (for lack of a better word) due to the destruction of the rings.

After time, everything was forgotten and the Forerunners started life anew, as Humans. Our history became fictional, mythical, and slowly forgotten. Now the only record of the Forerunners in Human history are holy icons the Prophets (i.e. Human Prophets) left behind to try to preserve our history.

Just my thoughts.
