Acting like pre and post pubescent idiots who feel confident behind Internet anonymity? Even though it's applicable to the majority of our members, we ask that they not do that here.

OK. So, I showed him the trailer, and told him that probably half to 3/4 of the graphics featured would be in the game. He said ok.

I was pointing out to him stuff like particles, details, lighting, specular, no. of polygons, and cortana's face. All of which, he was stunned, stupified, and amazed (good job Bungie team). When it came to Master Chief I paused and let him take a look at the armor.

He says, "What the hell is so special?"

I say, "What you are looking at is not a bitmap; it is a fully rendered armor."

He says, "No, that isn't; those are bitmaps."

I say, "No, those are polygons."

We have this arguement for about one hour, and I finally partially convince him.

His question is (stil remains):

Are all the of bumps, scratches, holes, and other things that dent the armor polygonal or bitmaps? Because he could not believe that even with the 360 that the GPU would be able to do that many polygons and do them in real time.

Afte this, we watched the rest and then I paused it where the reflection of the beam of light is showing on MC's visor.

Now, I'm sure that the bungie staff know, but for those that don't, I pointed at the ridges on MC's visor (the visor isn't flat but reather has a sort of inner frame). When I showed my friend, he said again, "So, what?"

I say, "The GPU is calculating reflection around that frame (you could see a distortion in the visor of the light) frame by frame in real time."

He again says, "No, that just can't be."

I say, "Listen to me," I make eye contact, "get out of 1990s mindset. This is all rendered real time."

He says, "Holy ****."

After this, we start walking and he says, " My gosh, we have reached photorealism."

So, my question still remains, is the armor bitmapped or just a REALLY AWESOME model?
