Yes, yes you are.

This sig will Self-Destruct in 3.... 2.... 1.... Thank you for your time. Cookie?

omg, a logical and sensible poster has dared to go on the Reach forums!

Go! Run! Hurry! Before the stupid infects you too!

(Sorry, but I've maintained the belief that some (basically all of htemk) of these forums are too far past saving.)

Not saving just trying to make it better.

I'm not really an Apple person (Bananas forever) but damn, that's kinda sad.

Ironically this is the result of a thread gone horribly wrong

LOL stop it; this talk of 'sides' is what we are avoiding. No one is at fault anymore, there is only zen and civil discourse.
Posted by: Drowsy Demon

There's just as many trolls making "MLG sucks" "Bloom is t3h gr3at3st" and "Armor LOCK rulez" threads. Both sides are at fault.

Eh and we all know how long that's going to last. Both sides will eventually start pulling all these cards again.

  • 01.08.2012 3:08 PM PDT

replace these cards with zen and civil discourse and there wont be a problem. Mods would have to become more strict in terms of punishing trolls and abusers of the ad hominem, but it might end up being healthy for the halo community in the long run.

stat card is relevant, bad players can't comment on how x element is/isn't a problem if they are too bad to play with people who will abuse it

You're automatically assuming that someone who's bad immediately thinks that element X is great for gameplay.

Face it - my stats are horrible. Do you see me supporting Armor Lock? No. To paint the entire forums with one brush is short sighted and doesn't help the argument when you aggravate someone to the point where they start flaming instead of debating.

I like to play Reach for fun. I hate MLG, campers, armor lock, and team killers because they ruin that fun. Deal with it.

You are the prophet that has risen to bring the forum goers together in peace. Praise him!

Waypoint style totalitarian police state is not what I want to see. Just being more respectful is all it takes. It doesn't require a 30 day ban for every accidental and subconsciously automatic "idiot" that comes out in your post.

You want a sandwich? Sure. As long as you don't mind me putting poison in it.

Yeah. I use the AR, so what? All you can do is scream and rage about me using the weapon.

The people I hate on this forum are the people who flame someone just because said person asked a simple question.

Why can't those people just place along nicely and answer the poor persons question instead of flaming him?

contentious subjects that have been literally beaten to death

You can't "literally" beat those subjects to death. Think you meant it figuratively. Not a big deal, just felt like pointing that out. I have a friend who uses the word very loosely, especially when he gets angry.

"THIS GAME LITERALLY JUST -blam!- ME IN THE ASS!"
Me: "LITERALLY!?"

I laugh so hard.

Sometimes the questions can be really pointless and obvious flamebait.

Case in point: That Exalted Legendary member a while back who posted in the Flood forum a topic called "How do you maek thread?"

I mean, seriously?

I guess it's just that the line between a new person asking a serious question and a troll looking for a few laughs has been blurred a lot for so long now that the flames come automatically.

Ok.

Again, moderator discretion would be key. Im not advocating for month bans for calling someone an idiot, bans are usually for cases of egregious violation of forum rules. Youre just making assumptions.

What I am saying is that we need to enforce good behavior which promotes discussion and punish the bad which actively takes away from it. ways it could be implemented: deletion of spam/personal attack posts which lack valid arguments, some type of soccer-like card system to keep users in check in terms of trollery or insults, etc.

This would require a highly educated overseer with a very comprehensive idea of what is and is not effective debate, but hey its gotta happen if we want any progress.

a totalitarian police state wont manifest itself, i promise.

The problem is, I don't want to have an especially vulgar person arguing against me only for his posts to be deleted mid-thread because they were detected as "personal insults" while his actual argument contained valid points. Too many people have gotten used to this system and won't appreciate such drastic changes.

All I know is that the 343i forums are awful

Bungie.net is much better for myriad reasons

Life is a journey, if you spend all of it with your nose in your map, you may miss some of the best parts.

Where is Eric when you need him?

>Moderator discretion is key

>"Ways it could be implemented: deletion of spam/personal attack posts which LACK valid arguments"

That would mean that if he calls you an idiot, yet backs it up he is in the clear.
If said person goes all attack and no back-up, then he is in danger of getting his posts reviewed/taken down.
It's during this review that a mod could dole out a warning "yellow card" or something, or take more serious action should it be situationally necessary.

ps if there are rules on this forum against vulgarity, dont be vulgar. 4chan is open for vulgarity and trolls 24-7

Lounging around and discussing Skyrim.

Optimatch merely discussed playlist specifics, so its scope was extraordinarily limited.
