Subject: What case would require a moderator to delete a thread?

I have never seen a case where it would be completely necessary to "delete" a thread in place of locking, even in groups. But, I have noticed that some threads are deleted. What cases would push a moderator past locking into deletion?

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

If it breaks the rules or violates the code of conduct.

Wouldn't locking the thread both solve the problem and set an example, though?

Yes, Locking and thread deletions are all for violations of the rules and code of conduct.

Deleting is for more serious threads that users should never see again.

When the topic breaks the rules and the moderator thinks it's fair to delete the thread, simply.

And the Shadow fell upon the Land, and the World was riven stone from stone. The oceans fled, and the mountains were swallowed up, and the nations were scattered to the eight corners of the World. The moon was blood, and the sun was as ashes. The seas boiled, and the living envied the dead. All was shattered, and all but memory lost, and one memory above all others, of him who brought the Shadow and the Breaking of the World. And him they named Dragon.

Personal information etc.

Threads that involve the topic of pie, apparently.

Who the hell do you think I am?

Illegal stuff, personal info, ways to bypass things here on bnet and such.

I think that they edit a thread or just ban the user so all posts made by them are un-viewable.

I mean, if all their content is unviewable there's no real problem unless some fools quote them and those words could put bungie in a bit of trouble/its users.

In wine there's truth but in silence there's surrender.

Over the last couple months I've seen four threads deleted, all containing a similar topic of "ponies" from the show Friendship is Magic. I'd still like to know why flame wars (as small as they may have been) that started in these threads are any worse than the flame wars that happen on a daily basis in other threads on the Flood. Unless other threads are being deleted as well and I just haven't noticed, I wouldn't mind if someone shed a little bit more light on this. If threads containing a certain subject are going to be deleted, why not just ban them completely?

Why can't a moderator just edit the post and then lock it in that case?

I imagine that would be what would happen if it was just 1 or 2 people, but if it was a lot of people it would probably be easier to just delete it.

People can quote things and generally it helps to have a cleaner forum.

It would have to be when something is pretty bad. Like Qbix said, personal information would be a definite case of deletion. Others would probably include inappropriate pictures and over the top insults/humiliation of another member.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

I'm pretty sure one mod did it once to a chronic troll to destroy the evidence, so they wouldn't be able to show off.

You mean that time where a user was trying to act like he was AdjutantReflex? Yeah, I saw when that thread was deleted.

No, no, that's when we delete ACCOUNTS, not threads.

  • 01.08.2012 4:11 PM PDT

Some ideas or images are best unseen.
I would rather have a mod delete a thread rather than lock it because I would most likely click on it to see why it was locked and then I would see a link and click on it only for it to be a John Cena link.

Ask any question. I'll help with anything on site or off.

Something that has links to inappropriate sites, or links that when you click on them you get a virus.

Do they also delete threads when the thread can start/cause a ton of parody-type of threads?

Graphics are good, gameplay sucks. Overhyped IMO.

This. As Achronos said, he doesn't like having to talk to the ATF and the FBI. If something is illegal, it'll merit stronger action.

Back in 07' Evilcam deleted the Kitchen 8 thread. His last post in that thread was one like anyother.

To this day I still wonder why he deleted it off from The Flood. That thread was just epic.
