When a moderator looses an argument.
No, no, that's when we delete ACCOUNTS, not threads.
I knew there was some that was able to delete accounts. :D

In the past mods have deleted threads that grew very quickly and were mostly spam, like a My Little Pony thread or what not. I think it's because no one in the thread got banned, so they could get rid of the evidence, and it was to big to leave in plain sight.

Or they just don't like that girls show. Who knows....

I suspect llamas are secretly wizards. I <3 poptarts n' milk. I like me. Grimick is defined as: a logical parodox, the act of funnaling a potato down your throat, and a deliciously flavored muffin (with pecons and blueberries). Norway is the Swedish word for 'moron'. My sister has cancer, so i get to use handicap parking and cut small children in line at Disneyland.

"Don't eat doughnuts on thin ice."

"The pancake, my friend, has officially been flipped."

If the whole thing is absolutely repulsive and offensive.

Personal information etc.
My thoughts exactly. That kind of stuff is something dangerous for the public to view, therefore must be delete upon any available request.

If it breaks the rules or violates the code of conduct.
Wouldn't locking the thread both solve the problem and set an example, though?
If it's something that's overkill such as teaching someone how to hack into someone's bank account or showing very NSFW pics that everyone can still see.

On December 1st, 2012, I met Neil deGrasse Tyson. I shook the man's hand, and even made him laugh. Not much else to do with my life now.

I saw one get deleted yesterday. I'm pretty sure Recon was the perpetrator.

The poll was "Who's your favorite pony?" and he was just like "No," and deleted the thread.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

But, I think it is when the ninjas have to guarantee classified and confidential information can't be gotten from the thread ever again.

Rarity FTW

I would guess only in extreme cases. Possibly if this guy had posted what he wanted to, or if someone linked users to a virus.

Astronomy Picture of the Day!

I know some moderators delete attention grabbing spam threads, rather than locking them, so that the maker doesn't get to look back on the "damage" they did. Some may think it's a bit excessive and that the delete tool should be used only in extremely bad cases, but I'm all for completely denying those people from getting the negative attention they crave, especially if the thread has no value whatsoever.

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

I didn't delete the Kitchen 8 thread. I've only ever deleted like 3 threads, and all of them were in The Classifieds, and that was years ago. I deleted them because they were heavily spammed with very inappropriate discussion. I've never been a fan of deletion.

So, please stop accusing me of deleting that Kitchen 8 thread, and any other threads.

OT: Moderators rarely delete threads. I actually have not heard about thread deletion recently at all until this thread. Its possible some threads are deleted, for DOX reasons like Qubix suggested, but I don't know about them. The last time I heard about thread deletion was when the Skulls thread was deleted in the Halo 2 Forum. We know the who/what/where/when/why, but I won't get into it here.

Suffice it to say that thread deletion is not the usual method of dealing with rules violations, nor Bungie's preferred policy.

"You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don't try to forget the mistakes, but you don't dwell on it. You don't let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space." -Johnny Cash

I'm assuming that a moderator would only delete a thread because it contained information that shouldn't be public, like account information and what not.

If someone made ASCII art of the male nether regions. Then, and only then, is a thread deleted. If you see a thread has been deleted then that is the reason.

Merely this, and nothing more...

At least I didn't get kil-

If EVERYONE in the thread posted pronz, then I'm sure they'd just delete the thread before banning everyone (cause it'd take to long to ban them all).
