Subject: A "Spoiler" Text format.

Because it's not that of an important issue.

I mean, it wouldn't hurt (as far as I could see, if they limit it like how I said) and having the feature will help, so why not?

Interesting idea. I think it's better to just discourage spoilers though.

But isn't it the website's fault for not encouraging users to follow the rules when they can? I mean, it wouldn't hurt (as far as I could see, if they limit it like how I said) and having the feature will help, so why not?

Users would know to properly mark spoilers if they had read the rules. Not having knowledge of a rule is no excuse to break it.

They are clearly there at the top of the forum. The vast majority of forum users will know there is a rule set on every forum, whether they decide to follow them or not is their choice. Thirdly, if they didnt know that forums had rules, one look down the forum listing would see locked threads and banned users, showing to them that their is a rule system in place. People should have common sense. It's not Bungie's job to make people read the rules, they cant control whether we do or not, its their job to enforce them, and for the user to know of their existence.

Back OT: There is nothing wrong with your suggestion, it's merely redundant in my opinion, and Bungie has other priorities.

It's still good enough to do when the more "important" issues are taken care of, which I (at least) don't see many of. It couldn't take that much effort to do, anyway. Could it?

If you could prevent people from doing the wrong thing in any way, shouldn't you? Isn't that for the best?

You make it sound like deviant users deserve to and should break the rules.

Yo dog, I heard you like hiding spoilers so I hid a spoiler inside your spoiler so now you can hide a spoiler while spoiling other spoilers.

Bungie shouldnt play the role of the dog leading the sheep into the pen by taking extra steps to force us to read the rules. We should be capable of conducting ourselves with reason and civility.

And I am not saying they should break them, i'm saying they will disregard the rules until they have been thrown into line by the moderating team, at which point they either step into line, or risk further and more severe punishment.

I want a sarcasm font first, but it would be cool nonetheless.
I feel like italics fits the bill there.

Sure it does

DUDE. Italics font, but slanted the other way would be PERFECT.

On topic.. I think this is a good idea. Should be simple enough to implement.

Yeah, but some sheep just don't care about going into the pen, no matter how hard you slap it, and you have to put it in there anyway. Why not just make it more appealing for the sheep to get into the pen instead? They don't have to understand why they're wanted in their pens. As long as they're there, the shepherd should be happy.

I think I'm proof that users can teach themselves to follow the rules without that complimentary "slap" or even taking second thought of or look at the rules (originally at least).
And I am not saying they should break them, i'm saying they will disregard the rules until they have been thrown into line by the moderating team, at which point they either step into line, or risk further and more severe punishment.

I think it's a good idea, but knowing the flood, there might be a good handful of users that will abuse the system.

  • 01.08.2012 9:05 PM PDT

Classified.

There is a BB code already for it.

Just put [spoilers] Godzneighbor is sexy! [/spoilers]
(Insert text in between the two.)

It'll appear as just the BB code, a person has to quote you to be able to see what you put between the [spoilers][/spoilers]

Edit: I goofed, I don't know it's something between the lines of what I put. I must of typed something wrong...*Facepalm*

Spoiler forum, anyone?
Actually not a bad idea.

  • 01.09.2012 6:32 AM PDT

I acknowledge my user name is stupid. However, I promise I'm not.

Disclaimer: The latter is a lie.

This is how this thread will turn out, unfortunately:

- Person A suggests a good idea that is commonly used across a wide range of forums involving games.
- Person B, C and D will agree.
- Person E, F and G will say it is not a necessity and the current system works perfectly fine.
- Bungie employee will agree with E, F and G unfortunately and/or not post at all.
- Good idea will not come to fruition, but the idea will become suggested again shortly.

Personally, I love the idea.

As long as you can't put a spoiler within a spoiler

A spoiler... in a spoiler? Oh no!

But common sense should be there to prevent us from getting things spoilt. If you see a thread *Discuss X or Y here!* then you should know that spoilers will be imminent. However, if someone posts a major spoiler (omg u r teh alian) in the title.. which spoils something that a lot of people will not have known, it should either be corrected quickly (providing it was a mistake) or warrant a ban.

But if someone wants to spoil something for you, they will. They can just randomly insert the spoiler into a thread or have a completely different topic title, which should also warrant a swift and merciless ban. Some jerk spoiled Skyrim for me, and if I could have strangled him, I would have.

If I've done that right, quoting the post should show what's between the tags.
The feature is already there, but I know what you mean, something like the Minecraft Forums for example, have a far cleaner, easier way of doing it - and it would be a nice thing to have.

"You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don't try to forget the mistakes, but you don't dwell on it. You don't let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space." -Johnny Cash

I wouldn't mind having a feature like that. It sounds better and more effective than just adding spoiler tags.

As long as there is a limit to them then I agree we need this.

What do you mean limit? I don't think you should be able to put a spoiler inside a spoiler.

Say your talking about a movie or part in a game that has spoilers. Besides just adding *spoilers in the title I think it would be cool to add something that you can click to reveal the spoiler.

I picture it being sort of like the reported bar. But in the middle of your post.

Thoughts?

There's HTML for it on a lot of sites, even them free invisionfree ones.

Usually [spoiler][/spoiler] or something similair, sometimes you can change the opening text from "spoiler" to something else. I don't see a problem, but people could make a word hide a paragraph for amusing easter eggs.

  • 01.09.2012 5:17 PM PDT
