The innies wouldn't do that and would nuke your planets for even saying that.

So they didn't want to be governed, and they didn't want independence? What do you think would have helped?

They are terrorist! Yes, I understand that UEG robbing the outer planets for resources was bad, especially since they had the Oort cloud. But for them to resort to nuking and killing civilians ruined any sympathy for them.

The concept of Entire planets being independent is stupid in itself, America tried that with states and it didn't work whatsoever. Trying that on a planetary scale would be ludicrous.

Seeing how the innies always brag about having members in high positions within the UNSC and other branches, they should have been trying to manipulate them into treating the colonies better. Not keeping the nonsense that they were doing on going.

They weren't necessary to combat the Insurrectionists.

Someone didn't read Halsey's journal... Read the findings of Doctor Carver, then come back with a more enlightened mind.

I've only skimmed it. I'll go back and read it more thoroughly, but not for a few days, since I am out of town.

Then I'll just give you the quote directly:
"Unless the political situation throughout the colonies is stabilized (preferably by force), the Government will collapse and civil war will rip human society apart."

This was what humanity was up against, the threat of regressing to a primitive state from their own civil war with the whole of human society at stake. That's justification enough for the commission of the Spartan-IIs.

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

Not at all! The requirement of force is no justification for abducting children, brainwashing them, and forcing them to fight, and die!

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

So, instead of sacrificing a few hundred kids childhood lets let human society rip apart! Where the kids would most likely die, anyway. This gives them the honor of fighting for a good cause and saving billions of lives. Oh, but no, let them have a fancy pantsy childhood that won't be much of a childhood anyway because of Civil War. Give me a break...

The ends justified the means, the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few (etc etc). Whilst it's not a moral action, it was necessary and saved millions of lives.

Just to point out was this not why the Orion project was created and used. it had some nice results but it was not as brutal.

True more casualties and longer, but the need for faster results could have resulted in the S-II's creation

The Moral Decision is not always the right one.

"The ends justify the means" is NEVER a sound argument. It only looks that way because Halo was built around the Spartans before a story was made. It was created to be a success, so no matter how you spun the beginning, it had to be good.

Besides, there's no possible way the MJOLNIR armor was so powerful that it could only be used by special, augmented humans. It is so inconceivable to have engineered it to have less of a reaction to controls. That's idiotic. There's never been anything that has been created in history that is so effective that it can't be used. That goes completely against the progression of technology.

@accordingto343

Your one stop shop for all of 343's fabulous errors and ridiculous notions in the Halo lore.

In the case of a new Dark Age for humanity, yeah, the ends justified the means.

Besides, there's no possible way the MJOLNIR armor was so powerful that it could only be used by special, augmented humans. By that logic everyone should be able to fly a fighter jet. The armor was made for the Spartans to increase their combat effectiveness.
