Subject: Reach's campaign better than halo 3???

I liked Reach's campaign more than 3's but not more than CE or 2's. The Noble Team was...whatever. I liked playing as my own, personally customized Spartan but I definitely like Chief more than the rest of Noble Team.

Reach had a campaign?

Ya at first I thought it was chinese water torture, but as it turns out, it was actually supposed to be part of the game.
LMFAO.

I like Reach more than Halo 3. However, H2 and CE are personally better. ODST gets rated on its own scale, seeing how it is really different in pretty much all aspects. The glitching aspect is higher in Reach than in CE or ODST so it gets a pretty high score.

my opinion
Halo 2> Halo CE> Halo 3: ODST> Halo 3> Halo Reach> Halo Wars

I don't understand how Halo 2's campaign is better than Reach's, let alone CEs.

IMO, I hated the Mk Vi suit (I don't hate it nowadays, but I still prefer mk V than mk vi), and I wanted the old CE suit to come back. The arbiter was a nice addition, but it distracted us from the war raging on Earth. They made the game more of an epic space opera -blam!- and less of a sci-fi military theme like in Halo CE. I prefer the latter because usually with that theme the story is more visceral and grittier. The re-entry of the Flood was horrible, I never had the same feeling of dread and tension like in CE, and Gravemind is the stupidest corniest villain I have ever seen. And that cliffhanger ending. Yuck.

Eh, I don't think so. ODST and CE are better than both by about a mile though.

IMO Halo Reach's campaign was the worst out of all of the Halo games made by Bungie.

Reach's campaign is more serious, mature and dark than the others. The main character, Noble Six, loses everyone "close" to him, witnesses his world burn around him, and eventually dies in a way everyone fears; alone and having achieved an unknown purpose. In this story, you see the gravity of the Covenant invasion unlike the other games. The story isn't perfect, but it's one of the better ones out there.

Halo 2 and 3 had a lighter tone; more cliche characters/scenes, more cartoonish graphics, etc. While Master Chief is an iconic character, it is be argued that he is a cliche, run of the mill action character where there hasn't been much character development for him in the three games. The biggest let down for me was that almost all of the enemy species spoke English; breaking the fourth wall and ultimately ruining the suspension of disbelief. Because of that, I can't take those campaigns seriously.

I find it laughable that most of the people are saying Reach is the worst without saying anything sufficient to back that up. It's like the cool thing to say lolreach on these forums. While its gameplay has flaws, it doesn't mean that its story is going to suck because of that. Stop being so damn impressionable you kids. Just like the campaigns of the other games, I can't take the Reach forum seriously.

Please don't hype for games...
They'll just fall short of your expectations and you'll complain for months.

ODST> Combat Evolved> the rest.

2 and 3 really didn't stand out to me. Neither did reach.

My preference for campaigns

Halo 2 > Halo CE > ODST > Halo 3 > Halo Wars > Reach

They just could have made it better, like given Noble Team more personality (except for Jorge, he was developed pretty nicely IMO).

Also, being a Noble Team would have helped too...name one level where every single Noble member was on the ground fighting with you.

That's right...there ISN'T a level as such...and Jun being in the falcon in Winter Contingency doesn't count.

Jorge was the best/only good thing to come out of the Reach campaign.

and the fact that the main character is you. you create whoever is the main person

part of that could be cause you already knew about the flood. but i will admit it was rather.... random. it was like "fighting covonent, covonent. BAM! Floods back. Why? Who cares!" lots of people care..

of all bungie games, Reachs was my least favorite campaign. that doesnt mean i didnt like it! its very great, but it could of had lots of improvements. the introduction to space battles was short-lived. Kats death was random and seemed lazily thought of. The story behind the Zealots was left wide open, you fight them, they get away, Hasely tells you their purpose, you kill one, they kill almost everyone, you kill the rest of them. theres much more

I do agree that Reach did fairly poor in terms of character development, and that the space battles were a tad short, I have to give Bungie credit for trying. They've added more new features into Reach compared to the the other titles. While most of what they added didn't really work out, but gotta give credit where it's due. If they didn't try new things at least, it'll turn into Call of Derpy: Same -blam!-, different game.

To me, Halo 3 felt just like Halo 2, sure the story picked up where the story left off, but the style felt the same: Chief and friends kill everything with the style of a merry space opera. When Johnson dies, it's not really sad because they developed his character, it's because we're so used to just his presence as the norm(and dying in every level he appeared in on Halo 1).

Here's a good example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPEYImyvKBY#t=3m10s
At 3:10, the line, "To war." has to be the most pathetic line ever spoken in all of media entertainment. I've never forgot it since September of 2007. For me, not a single -blam!- was given given when she died.

The characters have learned nothing new since the first game, and did not develop much character since their debut. It might as well have been a pet rock that saved the Halo universe from blowing up.

I still think these games are fun, it's just hard to take some of them seriously though.

Well Master Chief is iconic for a reason. Nearly everyone, including me, likes him more. However, he isn't as 'real' as Noble 6. And he's getting old.

  • 01.11.2012 1:58 AM PDT

Neither one is really that great, but at least Reach did a better job than h3's.
