I'm with Stevobi here. It's great that them community plays together, but if any other group tried this the thread would get locked. I mean, it's not even about a Bungie game.

We're the Bungie community, and the purpose of these forums are to discuss community news and events. The Bungie community is playing BF for one night, that is all there is to it. Also, I don't think this topic would be closed as DeeJ made a topic about joining Bungie's official BF group not so long ago. Its just a community get together to play with other members of the community.

Why are you the community, and the rest of us not? When we try to "engage the community" and even try to get people to play Bungie games no less, we get thrown into the void that is the classfieds.

Like I said, if we want to be a community that plays together, I am all for it. I would love for this place to be full of people with a common interest in playing Bungie games, rather than people sitting around discussing how long they have been sitting around here for. But how a handful of us are considered community, and the rest not, I'm still a bit confused.

I don't recall anyone here saying that you weren't part of the community. I don't really see what your problem is.

CC is a group to centralize the community playdate efforts. If anyone was allowed to just make a thread looking for some players for any particular game, this forum would be swamped. Having it organized from one location and then brought to the communities attention keeps everyone orderly.

As far as the Bungie game bit goes, seeing as how many people here are past Halo already, I don't see the point in making these events Bungie games only. No one would play them.

All was shattered, and all but memory lost, and one memory above all others, of him who brought the Shadow and the Breaking of the World. And him they named Dragon.

Posted by: Obi Wan StevobiIf everyone was allowed to advertise in this forum, people would spam and The Classifieds would become useless. That is why Tom set up the Carnage affiliates, so other groups can recruit from the community under the Community Carnage banner. It is sort of a hub for organising community games.

It isn't like we never play Bungie games either, every single carnage up until now has been on a Bungie made game- we had 3 last month.

I believe you outlined the problem in your post. If anyone else tries to post a thread trying to get people to play, its immediately locked or doomed to The Classifieds. Just because you slap the word "Community" on a thread and belong to a special group, shouldn't make you exempt from the rules the rest of us are forced to live by.

Don't get me wrong, I think these Community events are great. I wish more people from this forum played online together. Its the whole double standard about thread locking that doesn't seem fair.

Because there are other reasons to be here. Some people like coming here for the Flood. Alot of people are okay with staying in their private groups.

I guess the best thing to sum it up would be 'I came for Halo, stayed for Bungie', except, like I said earlier, alot of people have left Halo behind(and let's face it, that's the only Bungie game that would see any turnout for a community event). They're going to be excited for whatever Bungie does next, but for the time being, have moved on to something else.

I guess it's just a matter of perspective. I would imagine the mods allow these threads because it's organized and community-oriented. The flip side would be everyone allowed to come on here spamming threads looking for a few other people, which would make this forum into the Classifieds v2.

What is community orientated about it? Is the Bungie Community Forum a home for battlefield players? Back when they were Halo, it was a gathering of the same group of people who get together and blog about their Halo games, and always fought over who is in charge. At least when it was Halo-related, they were somewhat worthwhile. Now, that you have moved on, I see no relevance to it at all.

Meanwhile, Halo players aren't even allowed to talk about the game they play in this forum.

Until there is an alternative to The Classifieds I am afraid we need to tolerate some bureaucracy if we are to have any game nights within this forum. To compensate for this unfavourable position the Carnage runs in as democratic a fashion as possible. Equality is stressed and everything is in the open for anyone to comment on.

Qbix and I act as overseers and try to ensure the carnage continues in the best interest of the community. Our only failure so far has been in preventing BUNGLE gametypes...

Give the article a read if you haven't already. The Carnage Affiliates idea is an attempt to integrate more of the community, rather than simply playing host to septagon circle jerking, as is sometimes the danger.

Hey, if you think there's an issue with this, go ahead and ask a mod. I'm just giving you my thoughts. These gamedays are beyond Halo/Bungie, because it recognizes that there are people that want to play other games with their community members, and invites them to do so.

FWIW, I didn't like the carnages back when they were Halo-centered because of the very reasons you brought up. It was always SJ and his buddies on one team, while the 'community' was relegated to a second team.

Bungie are dark, they are no longer working on Halo, and the members that remain on bungie.net stay for the community. From what I've gathered DeeJ wants members to use bungie.net to play games they want to play. This is a step towards that.

  • 01.09.2012 9:10 AM PDT

This Community Forum is home to the members of the Bungie Community. For the time being, they are players of many games. Until I can drive your attentions to a Bungie game, you are all welcome to play and talk about whatever you want. Use this website and this community as your social lounge to enjoy the company of each other in any game that is worth playing. There will be no locked threads.

As for Helveck's initiative to create some positive action in Battlefield 3, I support this message. Please have a ball, and I will be along with a ticket to ride in the near future.

So, who wants to play?

Me looking for Halo players would also be a step towards that, but I am not allowed. Maybe if I made a group and got the same 20 people to play every week, we could post about whatever games we are playing?

  • 01.09.2012 9:14 AM PDT

I acknowledge my user name is stupid. However, I promise I'm not.

Disclaimer: The latter is a lie.

Could everybody please stop whining and play some friggin' games.

OT: I don't have BF3 :(

Note: I suggest the next one we do should be on Halo 3. Living Dead Community Carnage anyone? Could set up leaderboards etc. and have it as a monthly event :)

This isn't strictly true. While some members do play in a disproportionate number of carnages (some small limitations might need to be discussed), there are almost always a few new faces. In my opinion this is good thing. It allows newer guys to mingle with more established folk and gives them opportunity to join existing friendships/social groups. The affiliates initiative is meant to be a progression of that idea.

So, who wants to play?

We've been using this website as our "social lounge" since forever.

We already have a Battlefield group that has been around for a lot longer and wants to get together, but this group has been allowed to advertise in the septagon and therefore seen a lot more limelight. What about all the other groups that want to advertise here because no one checks the classifieds? Instead of a social lounge on the website, there needs to be a social lounge in this forum itself to advertise gamenights from groups without having to be "official"

  • 01.09.2012 9:39 AM PDT

Why would you want to? You seem to only play with the same small group of friends.
