Well I think it would only be fair for me to comment on this, as much as this thread isn't really about "Why this is justified", it still is in its original nature, a sign-up thread.
To those of you that are a tad argumentative about this concept, I have to see I'm not really surprised. Though, I can't help but think some of you are not arguing for an actual reason other than it doesn't seem fair to you. Whether or not you actually WANT to advertise doesn't seem to be the problem... You want balance.
Well lets make a few things clear:
These advertisements aren't meant to bring benefit to any SINGLE group. I don't care many people end up playing, as long as we have enough people to fill spots. And why do I want to fill spots? In order to engage and bring the Community together under a different area of gaming while we wait for Bungie's next title. And when that time comes, and we still want to play the odd different title, these different affiliates will not only help us network between different titles, but we'll still have access and connections to the central Hub, which like I've said before will likely be centralized around taking people from The Community, and throwing them in games together, specifically whatever Bungie's next title will be. And this is for the benefit of the Community. Not any single group.
Which is what a lot of you seem to implying... Not to sound vain, but do you think I'm doing this for me? No I'm doing this because I know people want to play games together, and the established formula of having different titles focused on by different affiliates allows for people who still want to be connected to Members here, on this site, to be connected Online as well.
I'm glad we've somehow formed this idea, and I'd not expected it would form to something of this nature when we started... But if it is to survive, thrive and have public attention (as I think big Community events should) it would likely die in The Classifieds.
Not all of our events will be held here, obviously there will be guidelines set in place to follow so we're not seen as just using the Community forum as a tool at our disposal, but an asset gifted to us by those in charge.
We really need to get beyond this "What about Halo? Now other games? That shouldn't be!" argument. We all love Bungie, and we're all excited for their next title... In fact, we'd be ignorant to think that it won't garner all the attention when the time comes for it to be played. But to show that Bungie is willing to help facilitate and support efforts by their fans in the meantime to play other titles with people here, really shows the maturity of their organization when they allow for such a thing. And entourage it. I suppose it can be seen as wanting to help strengthen the ties of all the people gathered here? After all, bringing people together who might not have otherwise done so helps build a strong more unified Community. And that is the goal here, ultimately. While there will be different affiliates, the overall goal is to just get us all playing again with one another...
