Subject: Sniper Thread

I like to play Reach for fun. I hate MLG, campers, armor lock, and team killers because they ruin that fun. Deal with it.

You could try camo sniping. You have another thread going on with that subject.

You could try glitching into some geometry as well. And be camo.

1. Practice your "snap" aiming. Pick multiple objects on the map that require you to turn to see each one. Practice quickly moving your aim back and forth to these objects. Eventually you should be able to think of where you want to look and snap your reticle there without adjusting.

2. Practice your "fine" aiming. Stand still and draw circles with your reticle. Starting with a large circle will be easier then work your way down to the smallest circle you can. After this do figure 8's of varying sizes as well.

3. Practice your "fine snap". When your reticle is right next to an enemy but not on him, practice quickly placing the reticle on him and firing.

These are the physical skills. Positioning and maneuvering are just as important but much harder to teach. Enjoy!

Got a DMR sitting at ToD in every game type .... are you still going to call me a booster?

Once you've sniped a few from one location MOVE. Find another. Snipe from there, then go back to the first, move to a third, or whatever.

If you stay in the same spot you won't last long.

a good sniper will have half a dozen spots per map.

on Hemmo alone there's a dozen per team/side.

So basically... Waypoint is pro-vanilla?

Waypoint isn't pro-anything so much as they're just anti-intelligence.

Stop using camo.

I don't mean to brag I don't mean to boast but I got hummus for these MINI TOASTS!

Yes,before hiding and getting snipes scan the area to make sure no one can see you. And one more thing don't spray.

Forget it man, and get with the countdown. Shake this square world and blast off for Kicksville.

Actually, this is a viable point. You'll never get better if you keep relying on a crutch.

He can always start leaning on it again once he improves.

So, as you know, I love sniping. However, I would love to become a better sniper. Any tips?

P.S. I would like to do better in Team Snipers. I am already fine in BTB.

Stop thinking Hemorrhage is a good map for Team Snipers and you will instantly become better.

Desperation can lead into mistakes. If you think you can achieve everything, try to do that. You can earn 'em all.

I'm horrible at sniping. The best snipe I ever got was one snipe, two kills.

he didn't display a single iota of skill. that was unbearable to watch.

to get better; play OCtagon with sniper secondary; the best way to tighten your aim is to practice while under pressure.

To learn how to do trick shots like jump shots and the like, practice on a AFK person in a custom for awhile. Try to learn how to line up the reticule while jumping and strafing, then move on to moving targets and then customs. Sounds boring, but it works.

Reload when you don't have a line of sight on someone or are moving to a better position. Don't stay in the same spot for more than a few kills, keep moving to different locales to get easy kills.

Pick up the rifle in FFA's as much as possible; odds are you have to fight to get it and fight harder to keep it, constantly thinking about were to aim.

Most important piece of advice is to ignore all advice from people who are not better than you. (easy way to do this is just look at advice from H3 50's).

Next bit of advice is to practice, a lot. Play Team Snipers all day (I would do it in H3 since there is a ranking system).

Well, this is great...if you wanna be good at Halo 3. If someone wants to be a good sniper on Reach, then the obvious answer is to use the sniper on Reach, not a different game.

Anyway...Since showing a 30-0 gameplay of Team Snipers is obviously a lack of any sort of skill, I'll just write out my list for you, OP.

1. Use the sniper often (duh). Preferably in the Team Snipers playlist or Squad Slayer. I say Squad Slayer because it has just enough people to provide plenty of practice with and the maps are small enough to keep you under pressure. If you go to BTB, 90% of the people you shoot at will be far away and don't even know that you're there. There is no point in practicing against people that don't shoot back. It is for this very reason that you shouldn't rely on camo.

2. Don't stay zoomed in all the time. I find that most often the downfall of a sniper is that they were too focused on one spot and failed to pay attention to their surroundings. Zoom out every now and then and check to your side and behind you. Especially check behind you after every few kills.

3. Go for the head...when you can. If you think that someone is moving too fast or there are too many objects in the way, then either wait or go for the body. Some people take the "always go for the head" thing way too seriously and sometimes spend a whole clip trying to get a single headshot. This is sometimes acceptable when you have infinite ammo, but not so much when you don't.

4. When it comes to no-scoping, you should practice in custom games. This way, you'll get better at it before wasting tons of shots in MM.

5. Go for high ground, but not the highest ground. The higher you go, the more targets you'll be able to see, as well as be more vulnerable. Basically, ignore the tops of towers in maps such as Pinnacle and Ridgeline. Stay on the hills or other similar areas. The highest areas are not always easy to get away from once you've been shot at, and a sniper needs to stay alive to support his team.

6. When in Team Snipers, don't jump around so much. You become so much easier to hit, especially at close range. If you ever get into a no-scope fight at close range, throw off your opponent by randomly crouching at times. Sometimes they'll be going for your head, and who knows, that crouch could just save your life.

7. And for the love of all things good, NEVER STAND STILL!!! Despite popular belief, standing still does not improve your accuracy. You are perfectly capable of using both sticks at the same time to move and aim.

If I think of anything else, I'll let you know.

This

I could help you more in H3, I was a snipers warrior for some time in that game, but in reach its so easy its harder to show someone how to be better....

Strafe aiming is the most important tactic to learn. Whenever I have the sniper whether its in team slayer, snipers, btb, or any other playlist, I am constantly moving in a figure 8/circle pattern as you never want to stand still while sniping. Learning to strafe aim is an important skill for close range as well as long range sniping and will help you become the best sniper on the battlefield. I got good with the sniper by playing a lot of team snipers, so spend a couple days in that playlist, with or without some friends and really practice on strafe aiming.

Once you get the strafe aim down pat work on a sweep aim as that combined with the strafe aim can make you deadly. A sweep is when you line up your target, then move the reticle left or right over the target in a sweeping motion and timing the shot perfectly. If done correctly, the auto-aim in the game will give you a slight window to connect for the headshot

P.S. A good tactic when using the sniper is to double switch your weapons. by doing this you zoom out of scope immediately and can glance at your radar to see if anyone is sneaking up on you. I always try to have something at my back or a teammate behind me. This way I know my back is covered and I can focus on whats in front of me. Don't stay scoped in for very long. Search for a target, then scope in for the kill

1) Reload after every kill.

The hell?

Any driving tips?

But seriously reloading after every kill is a terrible habit. It's one you want to break not re-inforce. Because you can't shoot when you're reloading.

If you're abuot to reload and an enemy shooting at you just double tap your "Switch weapon button" and you won't reload and can return the fire.

4 driving: always get in the passenger seat (dah XD) and aim for the head as if your were holding an AR. (not sure how to explain)

My Youtube channel, i post Halo gameplays and clips. :)

If you need help at close range -
Try scoping in when sweeping your reticule over the oponent, scoping in slows sensitivity, increasing accuracy.
Also, don't do flicking lucky no scopes, they rarely work.
Just try to anticipate their strafe.
I also find that when trying to no-scope at close range you should tense your thumb so that you dont slip and randomly flick your sight.
