That's right. My plumage is brighter than yours.
Ok, so, instead of trying to play out every little happening in Halo 3 from what you saw in a 2 1/2 minute trailer, won't some of you all actually take advice from Frankie himself: Look twice. Throughout the new update and H3 FAQs, he gives several little hints and allusions to things to watch in the trailer, but many of you may not have really read over them, so, I'll go ahead and dedicate this thread to figuring out the meanings behind some certain little things that Frankie talked about. Just remember, we're just going by what all was in the new update, and should remember that the trailer was only a teaser, and may be changed drastically in terms of factuality by the time that Halo 3 comes out. Rock on.
First, I'll go ahead and provide links, once more, to the trailers, that way you won't have to go to the front page for them:
E32006 Announce Trailer (WMV, small)
E32006 Announce Trailer (WMV, large)
Ok, there's the links, so you can go ahead and open your WMP now and pause at the beginning, so as not to jump the gun.
On the whatever Frankie mentioned in the Update (I'm copying and pasting now, guys, so just try and get the idea of want I'm suggesting you look for).:
Why is the Assault Rifle in there?
Who says it's the standard Assault Rifle? Doesn't look identical to me…
So, there may be something up with the AR, eh? Even with all of the know-it-alls preaching that it's the real thing, eh? We shall see.
I'm guessing those ruins in the back are Old New Mombasa, so, whereabouts is the Chief and this Forerunner structure?
That is indeed the ruins of New Mombasa. The artifact and the Chief are where they appear to be, on the desert outskirts of New Mombasa, and many miles inland. The mountain behind him is Kilimanjaro.
So, yes, people, the Ark must be on Earth . . . . right? No, maybe not. Probably, but there's that small chance. He called it a 'Forerunner artifact' and never mentioned once 'The Ark', so, maybe it serves another purpose. Just try and observe that seen.
Seriously though, how long have the covenant had control of Earth before the cutscene started? Days? Weeks?
The Covenant have basically been in control of Earth since the final events of Halo 2. What was left of the human forces was either distracted by Delta Halo, or already overwhelmed by the sheer force of the Covenant onslaught.
So, just to sort of bounce around here, when the Covenant capital ship jumped to Delta Halo from New Mombasa in the beginning of H2, they jump effectively totalled the city. now, maybe afterwards, the Covenant would come to own more and more control from this, but, face it, they cleared the path, they got what they wanted, they had their foothold, and nothing was stopping them. Also, look at Frankie's answer and you'll see that the artifact uncovered was outside of New Mombasa, not on the inside, or at least that's how it appears. Not that that means anything, but, hey, it's good trivia.
Does the canyon / hole in the trailer have something to do with New Mombasa and that spacejump the Covenant Capital Ship made at Halo 2?
That's an excellent question. A Slipspace jump in-atmosphere would have a devastating effect on an environment, don't you think?
Go one quote up. Then, look below it!
In the trailer I'm only seeing capital ships, what happened to the old covenant cruisers, will they make an appearance in the final product?
What you're seeing is an excavation force. Its makeup is purely practical
So, more ideas! The Covenant were able to eliminate any and all threats regarding themselves and their hold at Mombasa. the fact that these ships were refered to as an 'excavation force' leads to one conclusion, and that's that the Covenant have had enough time to use dig out the artifact. not that this would take too long, if you remember there excavating tools from First Strike, but it does make you wonder.
Why do the clouds do the swirly thing?
Fictionally: Tremendous, never-before-encountered, seething subatomic energies.
Factually: Parallax mapping and other techniques.
Let me start this off by saying 'yes, Frankie could just be being weird'. But, nonetheless, his answer seems solid. The energies are 'trememndous' and 'never-before-encountered'. Vital; yes, no, maybe?
Is that actually Earth?
Yes.
OMG!
-sometimes trumpets are blaring to celebrate success and jubilation, sometimes they are blaring in a defeated mourning manner, any thoughts?
-if you can answer this, could you also answer whether the Chief 's mindset in the trailer is in accordance of, or in defiance of these trumpets.
Trumpets have also been used to signal a charge to war or a call to arms. It could mean many things. You'll know in 2007.
Ok, so this one doesn't give a clear view to the Master Chief's or the Covenants' mindset, but you can take each idea either way: A call of arms for the Covenant; There could be more in this thing than just subatomic energy. Flood, mb? A charge to war for the chief; Him in his 'spankin new armour' and his 'brand new assault rifle' and the fact that he's the seamingly only person left to fight for miles? Quite maybely.
Please have Cortana's lines pronounced so that I don't see 36 threads about it.
"I have defied gods and demons."
"I am your shield, I am your SWORD."
"I know you, your past, your future."
"This is the way the world ends."
But there's obviously something terribly wrong…
Ok, so Frankie could have or could not have been sarcastic with that last line of his, but maybe he was serious, and there was something terriblly wrong with Cortana. I know that many of you have been hinting at Gravemind having control over Cortana, but, remember, this is also said to be a third of the way through the game. Maybe she's already escaped from him. Maybe this new note in Cortana's voice is from some new found knowledge she gained from her little party with Gravemind? Whom knows?
Is the Spartan in the teaser trailer, John 117?
Yes.
so stop theorizing aboot it.
Q
What is the plot of Halo 3?
A
The details of the plot have yet to be revealed. Suffice to say, the Chief has returned to Earth. The Covenant has uncovered a massive and ancient artifact under the African soil and Cortana is still trapped in the clutches of the Gravemind.
Ok, so, maybe Gravemind does have Cortana for a little longer than 1/3 of the game. butm then again, maybe not!
Q
What was that crazy huge dome buried under Earth?
A
We're not saying, but Halo fans may recognize something about its design.
Hmmmmm . . . . Ascensionish, maybe? I dunno, I'll have to do a bit of studying on that here in a while.
Q
What about the Covenant civil war? Are Elites our friends now?
A
That's plot. Unless you see something in a new trailer, or spot a clue, you're not going to get any plot until the game ships. That's how we roll. You'll just have to play and see.
This is where the trailer really comes in handy. I've been trying my hardest to see if those banshees have Elite hooves sticking out their hind ends, or if they're being controlled by Brutes. This could be quite the hint.
Ok, conclusion time. Well, this isn't exactly the conclusion to this muster of facts, but more of just an end to my quote/unquotes. You all, of course, still get to talk about it and lay down your thoughts, and maybe something else you might've noticed. Snap snap!
