Something I noticed. READ IT ALL BEFORE COMMENTING

At the end of Halo 2 we know that the Covenant is split into two fractions:

Elites + Hunters + Grunts vs. Jackles + Buggies + Brutes + Prophets.

Am I right?

Now we know that from Frankie's FAQ that Earth has been taken over SINCE the last mention of the Covenant/Human battle over Earth.

That means that the force that has originally taken over was the force controlled by the late Regret, in which his force did not contain any hints of Brutes.

Although that fact cannot be confirmed or disconfirmed, the known facts do support my viewpoint.

Aswell as that point, I'd also like to note to those that think, 'If it's really the Elites, why are they taking over Earth? (Aren't we allied to them now?)", for them to read the following:

Q
What about the Covenant civil war? Are Elites our friends now?

A
That's plot. Unless you see something in a new trailer, or spot a clue, you're not going to get any plot until the game ships. That's how we roll. You'll just have to play and see.

The answer is NO, we are techniqually NOT allied in way confirmed way with the Elite fraction of the Covenant during OR in the end of Halo 2. The only 'pact' between the two races is between Master Chief and the Arbiter's forces, and even with that, the two fractions only meet up for a fractions of gameplay time. I'd like to note that even after you 'ally' with the Arbiter you still have to kill Elites (See the last MC level).

With that being said, the force attacking Earth was not in any way ablidged to stop the attack, and we can assume that they continued the assult on Earth until they had won the battle.

Q
I spotted an Easter Egg in the trailer after I watched it a few times. How do you explain that?

A
The New Mombasa City Council had an incredibly efficient public works department until and even during the tragic and devastating Covenant invasion.

Another piece of proof that the groundside Covenant forces are infact the Elite fraction would be found in the new E3 trailer provided to us by the lovely Bungie. I am talking about the signpost that has a 'Grunt Crossing' symbol. This is not just a funny little insert, it's also put there to show that the Elite force (which holds the Grunts) has taken over.

Discuss.

two of the prophets are dead. i think truth is the last one remaining, and he was on the forerunner ship with tartarus on his way to earth. the trailer says nothing of what happened after they reached earth, but sometime (1/3rd) into the game. so yeah, it could still be the brutes and jackals n grunts taking over...the elites however might not have recieved confirmation from the arbiter that the sides have changed....

But Truth was leading a large Covenant fleet to Earth in the Forrunner ship. And the last ship that survived Regret's rush was the one that left and blew up New Mombasa, so the Elites wouldnt have any ships nor enough equipment, thats why Regret left, he was defeated.

Incorrect, when watching the last cut scene in Halo 2, Truth had to yet got to Earth, but there was a large force of Regret's fleet still fighting in space.

Edit: Regret did not leave because he was defeated, he left because he had found what he came for (Cords for Delta Halo), and he warped out of the city because it was a human world, and he didn't care if people died.

This theory is pretty stupid. It's the Brutes and you know it.

Regret's fleet was completely wiped out, as we saw in Halo 2. the fleet left for earth a little before Truth did most likely, not to mention the scene in the Halo 3 trailer is taken 3/4 through the game, enough time for the covenant to completely destroy the main defense forces of Earth.

Master Griem, there are more then three prophets, although those three were the 'leaders' of all the Covenant. (See Conversations from the Universe for more info).

Please give me a link to where it says Regret's forces were wiped out... wait... there is no where.

Also, no where does it say the trailer takes place 3/4 into teh game. For all we know this could be Cortana showing MC the future of the Earth if he was to fail.

About the first Q and A quote, I think the realationship between Humans/Earth and the Elites/Convenant Faction A (No I spelled it faction not fraction) is quote "You scratch my back I'll scratch your, umm, whatever you elites have for a back"

Tartarus was never with Truth on the way to Earth. The Arbiter killed Tartarus on the last mission. So how is he with Truth?

I have a strong feeling Tartarus will be in H3 though, some how he didn't die.

Bungie told press in a conference after the trailer that it was 3/4 through the game. We know Regret's fleet was wiped out becuase his was the only ship that made it to New Mombasa, and he wanted out, because he was calling for help.

Tartarus is dead. You kill him in the last level. Remember?

Remember people, the Brute force techniqually isn't that big.

Think of Truth, a few Brutes and Jackles in the 'Forunner Space Ship' and maybe a few Covenant ships that were not near the High Charity (The flood took over, remember?).

Think of it as a comparison with the Human, say the flood was to take over our homeworld (Earth - High Charity), do you think we'd still be as strong as before they took over?

The answer is no.

We dont know how big that force was, it was big enough to defeat the elite force on High Charity...Cortana tells Chief that Truth is leading a large Covenant fleet to Earth, and that if he reaches the world, Earth wont stand a chance.

Large compared to what? Compared to the Humans? To the Flood?

The Covenant armies will be in disarray, they lost 2/3 of their Prophets, Tartarus, their homeworld, and they are in a civil war. Add the fact that the Brute force was not prepared for the abadoning of HC and you get a fairly small disorganized force.

The Brutes defeated the elites on High Charity, so we know they have a large force there. Truth has been increasing the Brute's force size and duties. Sure they left in a hurry, but they could have assembled a large force in a matter of hours.

There is no solid proof that anyone 'won' on HC. All we know is the flood have taken over because of the Gravemind cutscene.

The only things we know are:

MC and the rest of the Truth crew got off in the FR ship.
Cortana is with GM.
There are almost no ships left from the HC region. Didn't you pay attension when they showed a quick view of HC during the revolution? Ship's distroyed everywhere.

The elites had to fall back completely. Yes, ships were destroyed, but lets not underestimate the size and number of ships on HC...it was immense as we saw in the game. The brutes could have wiped out the elite controlled ships and then left with Truth. Cortana states that if Truth makes to earth that the earth defenses wont stand a chance, so they had to be pretty big...

Don't forget the Flood. They were taking over ships aswell, so you've got to add that faction aswell.
