Something I noticed. READ IT ALL BEFORE COMMENTING
At the end of Halo 2 we know that the Covenant is split into two fractions:
Elites + Hunters + Grunts vs. Jackles + Buggies + Brutes + Prophets.
Am I right?
Now we know that from Frankie's FAQ that Earth has been taken over SINCE the last mention of the Covenant/Human battle over Earth.
That means that the force that has originally taken over was the force controlled by the late Regret, in which his force did not contain any hints of Brutes.
Although that fact cannot be confirmed or disconfirmed, the known facts do support my viewpoint.
Aswell as that point, I'd also like to note to those that think, 'If it's really the Elites, why are they taking over Earth? (Aren't we allied to them now?)", for them to read the following:
Q
What about the Covenant civil war? Are Elites our friends now?
A
That's plot. Unless you see something in a new trailer, or spot a clue, you're not going to get any plot until the game ships. That's how we roll. You'll just have to play and see.
The answer is NO, we are techniqually NOT allied in way confirmed way with the Elite fraction of the Covenant during OR in the end of Halo 2. The only 'pact' between the two races is between Master Chief and the Arbiter's forces, and even with that, the two fractions only meet up for a fractions of gameplay time. I'd like to note that even after you 'ally' with the Arbiter you still have to kill Elites (See the last MC level).
With that being said, the force attacking Earth was not in any way ablidged to stop the attack, and we can assume that they continued the assult on Earth until they had won the battle.
Q
I spotted an Easter Egg in the trailer after I watched it a few times. How do you explain that?
A
The New Mombasa City Council had an incredibly efficient public works department until and even during the tragic and devastating Covenant invasion.
Another piece of proof that the groundside Covenant forces are infact the Elite fraction would be found in the new E3 trailer provided to us by the lovely Bungie. I am talking about the signpost that has a 'Grunt Crossing' symbol. This is not just a funny little insert, it's also put there to show that the Elite force (which holds the Grunts) has taken over.
Discuss.
