Various factions in the haloverse break out of their apparent war time pigeon-holes in order to facilitate an interesting post war narrative.

People who deal with change well get angry.

The end.

Main Elite Characters: WE HATE HUMANITY! BLARG!

ONI: WE HATE THE ELITES, SO WE FUND THE FACTION OF THEIR CIVIL WAR WHO HATE US INSTEAD OF NEGOTIATING FOR A LASTING PEACE BECAUSE WE'RE WARMONGERS!

Interesting narrative?

Just keep in mind that Frank O' Connor is the master director for Halo, so ANYTHING in the books of significant or moderate importance to the storyline has to be cleared with him first. Everything that's in the book is approved by Frank O' Connor. just remember that.

So he cleared Lucy's punch at Halsey then. What a dumbass.

"Where ere thou hast been, here or in yon world manifest? Canst thou tell what is, or what was, or what is to come? No thing shall last. Yet there are some things that will never change. History is written in blood, yet are battles really lost on the battlefield? Canst thou tell me where thou comest, and where thou goest, and what is, or what was, or what will be? For everything remains, AS IT NEVER WAS."

Did they explain the crystal at all?

While it has been explained later, yes they did. Remember in Cryptum how it's mentioned that Forerunners manipulate slipspace with shards of crystal? There you go.

Halsey DID walk away from continuing the Spartan II Program because the next set of Candidates were not to her liking. That is stated in Glasslands multiple time as well as in Onyx

I don't remember that ever being stated in Ghosts of Onyx, and if it's only in Glasslands then I don't really think it counts. I don't believe that Traviss can just invent that emotion as a scapegoat to vilify Halsey when every scrap of literature we have on her indicates her mother-like loyalty to the Spartan II's until current.

As for Traviss' martyr campaign against Halsey? I'll say it. I am fine ethically with what Halsey did to the Spartans. Even if it were happening today in real life, I'm fine with it.

The book clearly states that the engineers have been working on Infinity for a "few years." That's at least two. In fact, that reference is made twice. The ship itself, then, has been under construction for two years. Not to mention the time to design the ship, gather resources, etc.

Okay. How, exactly? How would they be able to build the ship, having no knowledge of Forerunner technology? Keep in mind, a "few years" ago when they would have been constructing this, Cortana wasn't around to help with Forerunner tech.

Is it a stretch, yes, but so are many things else. ONI developing MJOLNIR to be so powerful, it requires soldiers with virtually unbreakable bones? Please. That's such a technological jump it's preposterous.

Actually not. You're putting a human in a machine. I direct you to the scene in Iron Man 2 where Hammer Industries is testing their own iron man suit, and the test pilot is directed to turn his torso. He ends up snapping his spine in a complete 180* because the machine over compensated.

MJOLNIR in that regard is not preposterous.

Cortana had a sizable Forerunner Archive after coming back from Installation 04. And that's a fact, by the way, not a guess. And if you accept Halo: Reach, she had information from the Forerunner structure under the glacier.

And at the earliest, that information would have been able to be used on October, 2552. Not "a few years" back. But wait! Earth was under attack almost immediately, so Cortana had to jump back with the Chief for combat insertion. Then it's straight away to Installation 05 and imprisonment with the Flood.

So when would Cortana have been able to debrief the UNSC on the entirety of Forerunner technology, and they had time to both understand and utilize it?

Cobra, it seems you have become attached to a more idyllic post-war situation where everyone becomes friends.

Is it a surprise to you that after 27 years of brutal war, there is some faction of the Sangheili who still despise humans?

Furthermore, ONI's plan to provide arms to the faction that distrusts them is actually fairly brilliant in a devious way; before they get rid of Thel, no action can be taken against the humans by the Sangheili, so the weapons can only serve as the fuel for a civil war which will undoubtedly leave the entire, already weak, Sangheili society completely crippled.

Or ONI ends up fueling Elite hate of humanity, causing them to unite and overwhelm Earth again.

IIRC, they put the blame of a stolen engineer (from the group they are supplying no less) on a human colony. The Elites aren't going to make the difference between "Rebels not with UNSC" and "Human colony, meaning they are linked with UNSC."

During the award ceremony. Remember she was not with the Chief then, but somewhere else. She pops in half way during the ceremony and explains of an attack.

She could have easily dropped all the info she had into the server or an account database. Or made a copy of herself to be used.

Humanity has Forerunner technology, now. I think this has made the UNSC and especially ONI arrogant; they alone can fully manipulate this wondrous 'gift' left behind for us, and I think we'll soon see examples of humanity using it to try and domineer the other races. It's human nature.

I have a feeling all this Forerunner technology will work against us at some point.

The have not done so. And plus everything is going according to plan.

Second. They attacked the former human colony, not because they are related to humans but because of the jackals. It is as much a covenant refuge as it is a human. A hellhole, and they believe that they would be serving the galaxy by blasting these scums away, even the humans.

It seems like humanity are going the Forerunner route of using their power to keep other races from getting strong enough to oppose them (the ODSTs being used to sow dissent in the Sangheili ranks), so we'll probably be left without any real allies by the time the Flood decides that we're not worthy of the Mantle.

No, but I expect the factions to learn from what happened in the Human-Covenant War, especially the Elites. The Prophets lied and betrayed the Elites, yet now we see Elites like Jul who sound EXACTLY like them. Do the Elites who found humanity honorable no longer exist? Where is the growing Elite youth movement who are human sympathizers? All this vitriol would be easier to stomach if those groups were equally represented.

I don't want the Human-Covenant War Part II.

Is it a surprise to you that after 27 years of brutal war, there is some faction of the Sangheili who still despise humans?

Nope, yet the reasoning behind such hatred is vague and based upon lies.

Unless 'Telcam shows proof that humanity is trying to tear them apart, leaving Thel without any support, which seems to lack in the first place.

The problem is, it would be MUCH simpler to support the side that is ALREADY friends. Why not give them guns so they can quell this rebellion? Shouln't ONI be working to eliminate threats, not trying to create them?

p.s. is I were ONI, I'd be trying to work up a friendship with the grunts. The only reason they are piss poor soldiers in the Covenant was because they were not educated, trained to any great effect, ruled through fear, treated like scum, and were under equipped. If the UNSC were to form a friendly alliance with them, teach them, train them, let them self-rule, treat them as equals, and equip them, they would be a fairly decent ally. Grunts are about human hieght, strong, agile(when not in cumbersome suits), and when properly taught they are pretty smart(Dadab and Yayap for example, even the retarded grunt Bapap was getting more intelligent when being taught). Humans shouldn't feel too bad about what grunts did to Mankind, they were sort of forced soldiers.

Does everything have to be simple.

Plus grunts are maybe going to be pulled in to the human empire via the use of narcotics, to hook them on to drugs and take over them.

I hope not. Grunts are much better soldiers when not controlled deameningly. Boost their moral, train them, educate them, and equip them, and you have yourself a decent ally.
