Look at the big blue hole in the ground in the preview. now turn on halo 1 and look at the out side of the ring and look at the large circles spaced out around the outside. Dont they look EXACTLY alike, like they could be large openings into halo? Now, picture a halo ring burried under earths surface from pole to pole that runs under new mombasa which is why the Prophet went straight there. to make sure it was there so he could get there before the rings went off. Now this large Halo ring can expand to a bigger size, creating a ring around earth, a halo. now, much like the bridge in halo one in the structure that is a glowing blue, perhaps the halo around earth can create one to protect it from the other installations blasts, rendering Earth 'the ark' like noahs ark was the last thing on earth during the mass flooding with life on it. Earth is now the last planet within the radius of the blast to have life. se what I`m saying?

I think blowing up the first halo will throw in some complications as well...

That's a very interesting theory. Of course, I doubt that it is right. But good thinking.
....(5 minutes later)

actually, now that I think of it. How would it protect Earth against the flood? When one Halo goes off, and kills all sentient life in the galaxy except for the Earth and all life on it (from your theory) what's there to stop the flood from just coming to Earth and taking over the people who survived? I don't know, I might've missed something there.

Anyways, it was a nice theory. I don't think I've seen it before

I am...whimsical today.

(The ideas in this post have been nabbed, full credit to the guy who posted them first...where ever it was)

Mombasa is very close (relitivly) to the Equator, its latitude is more important than it's longitude. This makes it a good site for the space elevator, and could also be why the Covonant landed there, as the Halo is aligned with the Equator?
