I'm getting Halo 3 for my birthday, which is tomorrow. I'm excited as -blam!-, it looks like a lot of fun and the more classic halo gameplay looks like it surpass Reach's.

From all of your experiences, do you think I will like H3 over Reach?

(Note: Please take in the number of people playing it and matchmaking times/connection)

Halo 3 is the better game. Halo Reach's graphics are better but every map is made of ugly gray legos so you don't really notice. However, there's way less people playing Halo 3 now. You won't have trouble finding games in most of the social playlists, or when searching at a low skill level in the ranked playlists. A lot of people are still always on playing custom games. If you're able to get a bunch of people on your friends list who play Halo 3, you won't ever have a problem finding people to play with.

one word yes and some people are coming back due to halo 4 so get some new halo 3 friends and you will be good

You'll still find matches fast, and yes, the game is a lot more fun than Reach. The connection is only really a problem if you're searching 50 high in niche playlists, which I doubt you will have a problem with.

I'm also getting it for campaign (LOVED H1 and H2), will I be satisfied?

In my opinion, Halo 3 is much better. I have been playing since launch (Not on this account. Used to play with my brother when he lived with me.) I have personally put in many hours into the game and no matter which new game comes out I always go back to Halo 3 after some time.

The campaign is great, online is fun at all times (In my opinion), and custom games are amazingly fun.

If you are a classic Halo fan then you should love this game.

Also, Happy Birthday!

no. nonono

Get Halo 3: ODST. If you just get Halo 3 you will only be able to play in two playlists due to map restrictions.

You'll find yourself wondering how far Halo has gone regarding the AI (mostly friendly AI). But it's not that bad (AI driving isn't as bad as in Reach) and since you've played H2, consider H3 a somewhat-inferior-but-better-than-Reach successor to H2.

Also, The Covenant is a level you should take a look at. So many fun glitches like using the AA Wraith to assault the first tower and multiple Arbiters at the Citadel.

And then there's the encounters. The third tower, despite being similar to the first, has some interesting trigger points so you can manipulate the AI (see here. The description describes the trigger points), including friendly AI.

Finally, this level is the only level in the Halo games that allows you to have an active AI battle during a cutscene. In CE, you could have enemies in the cutscene (and they would attack cutscene characters on some levels). In H2, you could have allies in cutscenes (Uprising, GJ). This is a whole new level of cutscene manipulation and it's all thanks to the resurrection system introduced in H3.
