okay, it's a nice theory and all, but I have to come back to this fact:
343 says the arc must be activated remotely...as in, not on a halo. Why? The forerunners don't want to make it easy to fire the halos and bring them back. I like the theory that said something about blasting the moon. Why?
because the end of the trailer isn't the end of the world. Period. It's 1/3 of the way through the story, and a big blast of light doesn't destroy all life in the universe...at least, not that blast of light. Whatever that was, it wasn't the arc being activated, UNLESS activating the arc doesn't do what we think it does...
If it was the end of the universe, the chief would still be fighting. The game would be over. Etc. Maybe that blast of light is opening up a rift in time that brings back the surviving forerunners. Remember, Staten said they aren't in our galaxy, not that they are all dead. Maybe it is pointing to the location of another main point in the story. I don't know...
