Heres a pic I took off Halo PC

They seem to match (Outside of the ring, the structure inside the Earth)

Very excellent theory. Why would the Forerunner do this? What about the Ark?

Well, think about this for a second.

The interior of a Halo ring contains a sustainable enviornment which can support life, correct? Well then, how could that be possible if the Halo is burried under the Earth's surface?

This is what I'm thinking: Pehaps it is a Halo, but of a different design, hence the name "Ark". Perhaps that is indeed the central Forrunner artifact the Covenant have been searching for. Well, that's my addition to this theory, anyway...

The few, the proud, the leet.

This is an example of bad logic. If there is a ring burried under the outter crust of the planet, and it's only that deep, then it most likely wouldn't be completely submerged at all locations. Its arc is not great enough to keep it under the ground level at all portions of the continent. I'm not a specialist on terrain height there, but you do have to acknowlege there is a mountain/mountain rage around there. Now if that hole were about 1500 kilometers deep, then you might have a plausible theory.

As for the reason it looks so similar, it's because it's an architectural style.

Also, has anyone considered, well, oil drilling? If this thing DOES extend the Earths diameter, well it would go under the ocean at points... and besides... that crater the Artifact was in was not 50 or 100 miles deep... it looks to be perhaps 1 or 2 miles down.

"In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move." -Douglas Adams

sorry, but wrong.

Remember that the earth is a sphere, 10,000km would fit under the earth, at the equator, but the Halo is not just a circle, it has width. At the very edge it may have been under the surface at Voi, but keep in mind that it would be at this depth all the way around the world, including the oceans we have explored very throroughly.

Does anyone know the lowest altitude of the sea floor on the equator?

  • 05.13.2006 5:52 PM PDT

Navy Football #45

The problem with this idea is, is that there is no way that a Halo inside the Earth (if it exists) should be intact. Due to the shifting plates and earthquakes of the Earth, the Halo would have been in many different pieces. We have to remember that anything in the Earth that was put there by the forerunners has been there a long time, and techtonic plates of the Earth have been shifting for a loooooong time. Sorry to spoil your theory.

he posted an answer to that little problem scratch...

Halo Empire, you are the most ingenious halo theorist i have ever seen! Great Job!

P.S. The lowest point in the ocean is in the Marinaras Crack (or something like that) It is about 20,000 feet deep... Also, who put that we have explored the oceans thoroughly? Yeah, we haven't explored them thorughly, in 2002 we had explored about 10% of the oceans, and scientists believe there are like 20,000 more un-identified species...

This thread has inspired me to join... I thought about doing so a while back, when I first realized that Bungie.net had such an efficacious forum design and aesthetic appeal that attracted me to join, but was discouraged. Well, here I am. I want to first start off by saying, wow. Congrats, fellows. Many of you have obviously been thinking very deeply about this - and I am with you brothers, I am eager to get this story solved, to get to the bottom of the mystery, and have all questions answered...

Way back when I was a halo CE fanboy roaming the forums of some popular fan site at the time (which I have forgotten - may ye rest in peace, oh relic of my mingled past...), I sat down and typed up my theory, drawing on various theories being thrown around based on our limited intelligence base (specifically, CE... and maybe nothing else. I forget when First Strike was published...). Now, since this is a relic of bygone days (years ago), I dredge up an old quote and seem to remember it being said somewhere that the MJOLNIR suits were based loosely on something from Greek mythology. Looking back, I realize this is odd, what with Mjolnir being an integral part of Norse mythology... anywho, here's my gander - do with it what ye will.

Mayhaps what we are seeing here links to High Charity, the half-planetoid homeworld of the Covenant, ruled over by the Prophets, who live on the Forerunner homeworld... I do not think it is entirely justified to rule out Forerunner technology being spread out throughout the Earth, given that the level of chaos and intermingling substances immediately below the 'relatively thin' crust of this planet would make any thorough scan of the interior quite... frustrating. "But, this is five hundred years in the future..." yes, but, the ONI facility (which, correct me if I am wrong, is like the CIA's database of International Artifacts and Relics buried somewhere under the Plains that contains everything from the Spear of Truth to the Mason's Fortune, or, i.e., top-of-the-line, best-that-money-can-by, government tech.) is only a few hundred miles under a mountain. Not very ground-breaking (pun intended, hah...) if you ask me, which is evidence to me that no Deep-Crust facilities or research has been really sponsored and forwarded.

So, in all, Earth could quite possibly be something Artifical. It was either from an official source, or just our crazy minds, but back-when, it was agreed-upon that the races of the Covenant had been significantly altered by the Forerunner. Forerunners step in, make mindless herbivores intelligent, the Prophets, Elites, and whatnot are formed... dinosaurs disappear on Earth... Whatever. This thread is about forerunner tech being underground, right? High Charity. Forerunner Homeworld? Very likely. Dead world? Completely. Older than Earth? Well, going from your Homeworld to the dying throes of your race, forced to build an Arc to survive... Earth would be significantly younger than the forerunner world. Very much so.

Tectonic activity is confined to the crust, for-your-inf. Could the hole we saw in the trailer be a type of exit/entrance, used by a ship very much like the one MC is hitchhiking on...? The opening of the neck of a bottle, perhaps, designed at the focal point of a couple of Tectonic plates to reduce damage recieved?
