An avid fan of the HALO saga, i have loved reach as the current crowning achievement of Bungie. However, i feel betrayed. Like someone just shot me in the back with a Shotty.
Why one might ask? The new player modded maps now online in Living dead. They are, to be brutally honest, a detriment to the creativity and design of Bungie. From Parasitic on Zealot to Powerless on Powerhouse I just want to throw down my controller and scream.
These wonderful maps with each detail painstakingly placed, now have random crates, covenant barriers, and kill zones thrown around willy nilly, making these masterpieces of digital design quite cramped.
Spooky Base on Sword base and Scream Station nine tore my heart out. shield walls on the exit to zero g? i loved to hear the muffled sound of shots in empty space, or run as last man in sword base for minutes on end. I just couldn't take these alterations.
The increase in Infection game type lifted my spirits a bit, for alpha zombies is a tune played too often. the effects though that seemed to be thrown on every map were two much. a dark map isn't appealing. a purple map isn't vibrant and full of color. these maps had too much going on and my brain didn't want to handle it.
i chose a spot and sat in place, for i was afraid to wander into a kill zone or a hidden maze. I'm not trying to rag on these players or their maps, but they are too crazy. i believe they thought people like crazy and everything everywhere at once, when in reality the simpler the more elegant a map becomes.
i do want to thank whoever created Bedlam on asylum however, because it is simplistic. Asylum destroyed. scattered pieces and broken remains are all that remains to battle in. it is peaceful and yet intriguing. now i realize that these maps aren't professional, and that Bungie may be trying to appease rabid fans with new environments, but there are perfect maps out already. in the defiant, noble, and anniversary map packs. i paid for all three of them.
i would like to play them more, however only those that paid for it can play on it. this perplexes me, for if there is maps as intense as these why would it be such a travesty if Bungie gave them away for free? to enrich THEIR gaming universe and to community with new worlds and challenges to overcome. my thoughts are really simple in their base form.
Living dead NEEDS Noble, Defiant, and the Anniversary map packs to push itself out of the Sword Base-Cage-Boardwalk-Alpha zombies rut it has been in for the past few months. player maps aren't the way to go. Can we have a separate playlist in the same column as competitive and community called "The Showcase" playlist or something where player maps can be displayed while our original maps can still be found and played online? just how i feel about the maps.
I am curious and i am sending a request out to the Bungie community, can you give me your input on these new maps and are they better or worse for REACH. i obviously chose the con, but what do you think?
Also, can we get more maps on Team Snipers where i can actually use the high powered rifle in my hands as a precision weapon and not as a shield dropper in close quarters combat? Why have a sniper if i'm only allowed to fight in close?

Fixed.
And Bungie didn't change it. 343 did.
