Subject: An idea to stop bad links...

Who the hell do you think I am?

Wouldn't bungie be able to ban certain links from the website, like if they tried to hyperlink it, it would just say it was removed?

Maybe then we wouldn't have much trouble with the shock links that are frequently posted in threads on The Flood. (I always look at links before I click them, but most people don't)

It would sort of help, until people start using URL shortening sites to get around it.

New Flood

I thought they already did that? You can't link to -blam!- and goatse and stuff I don't think. Problem is that you can't just block every tinyurl and the like.

That blam is for some kind of citrus based celebration.

"You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don't try to forget the mistakes, but you don't dwell on it. You don't let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space." -Johnny Cash

Yeah, but it would stop the people who don't know about them, so it would still help a bit.

Yes, but they could always ban those as well.

They are sort of necessary for long posts that contain a lot of links.

I think we should remove the ability to hyperlink altogether.

I've never seen a time where it is necessary to use a URL shorten to post links. If anything, when I see a tinyurl link in a post, I tend to avoid it.

It was quite common for long threads in The Optimatch to use link shortening sites. I have been trying to find an example that still exists, but I can't. It might not be that common, but it would still impact how long a thread with links could be.

It'd help if they made a short list of the most casually linked harmful sites, but there are just so many of them, it wouldn't make much of a difference.

The report button is there to to the best to solve such issues.

When I grow up, I want to be just like goofenhour.

If you want to stop seeing "bad links", you can just go to your router settings and add the website to the blocked list. Then you'll never have to deal with the "bad links" again.

Though Bungie should do something about that it isn't really Bungies job to protect you from the internet.

I never have a problem with them. I know how to handle being internet, though many other people don't. I'm just saying, it would help them out a lot.

Citizens of Me! The cruelty of the old Pharaoh is a thing of the past. Let a whole new wave of cruelty wash over this lazy land.

Hear the word of Pharaoh. Build unto me a statue of ridiculous proportion. One billion cubits in height......that I might be remembered for all eternity!

And be quick about it!

I have seen you future

People know all sorts of ways to get around the profanity filter, that doesn't mean it isn't a good thing to have on the site. A url filter would be the same thing. Many people would find ways to avoid it, and it wouldn't catch everything, but it would still be a way to stop some shock site links.

No, some plain URLs are corrupted by the post formatting.

The best way people learn, in my opinion, is from their mistakes. Yes, it's tough love but it would be impossible to try and educate everyone that uses this site.

I would suggest improving the forum search as well as implementing filters to help find the content you want.
