I agree with the OP. Even if there were ways around it, it would certainly help.

If you want to stop seeing "bad links", you can just go to your router settings and add the website to the blocked list. Then you'll never have to deal with the "bad links" again.

Or you can edit your hosts file and map the specific sites to 127.0.0.1 or to whatever you want.

I never have a problem with them. I know how to handle being internet, though many other people don't. I'm just saying, it would help them out a lot.
The best way people learn, in my opinion, is from their mistakes. Yes, it's tough love but it would be impossible to try and educate everyone that uses this site.

I completely agree with this, everyone should be personally responsible for their own internet experience. Learn how to navigate safely and become a wise old dweller of the net. Expecting Bungie to hold our hands at every turn is just stupid.

NO GROUP INVITES

Jesus took 3 days to respawn, talk about lag.

It's not an issue. Honestly, dont click links that look remotely questionable, and the vast majority of you wont get hit by shock sites.

Well yes, but most people that go on the internet and forums, are usually unaware of the kinds of things that people will post, and will just go click links all willy nilly. And then before they know it, they're hit right in the face with a disgusting video.

People should just be more careful about what they click. Always hover over a link to see where it goes.

If you're still unsure whether the site is safe or not, try this.

It's that's where the learning aspect comes into play. Eventually you begin to learn what to look for and how to look for it, which teaches you how to avoid undesirable content.

Learn to use the internet better. Bungie doesn't need to take their time babysitting the forum for things that users get themselves into.

Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...
I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

It would sort of help, until people start using URL shortening sites to get around it.
All shortened URLs look suspicious.
I'd rather stay like it is; Firefox shows me what I'm clicking on. :)

"We live in a special time; the only time where we can observationally verify that we live in a very special time" - Lawrence Krauss.

I was a finalist :P

I always act under suspicion when someone posts a shortened URL, or hyperlinks which are named . Chrome enables the hover feature, which reveals a link a user hides via text formatting.

But there are thousands of sites and new ones being created everyday, it would take over 9000 years! Okay maybe a bit less..

Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time.

I know who you are.

You are Destiny.

There are far too many URL shortening sites to be able to block them all. Honestly the linking "problem" isn't a problem at all - people should simply use better judgement when clicking shady links; or, don't click them at all. It shouldn't be Bungie's responsibility, but rather, the users'.

They call me Arch. YOU SHALL NOT PASS!

Posting on the forums: 5 minutes.
Making a thread: 20 minutes.
Claiming you are the alt of a banned account: Priceless.
For everything else, there's stosh.

Just throwing it out there but does the "report" button not work anymore? Who's to blame of spilling boozes on the report button?

Here is an even better idea, how about Bungie put a list together of trusted sites and blocks the rest! :0

I think we should remove the ability to hyperlink altogether.
This really is the only solution.

Perhaps an account should be over a certain age before being able to post hyperlinks?

Just because someone has an older account it doesn't mean they won't post links to rude/annoying sites. I don't see how it would solve the problem at all.

Yes, but they could always ban those as well.
I think you're forgetting that those sites exist for reasons other than hiding the identity of suspect pages.

You know...like shortening long URLs.

I don't think anyone is saying they wouldn't. The idea is that it would slow down those who create throw-away accounts created just for the act of spamming.

Maybe not based on account age, as one could theoretically create several alternate accounts and leave them idle until they're old enough to hyperlink. (Account 'ripening,' if you will) Implement a system based on posts maybe? I don't know.

Now, granted that I'm not one of these people that's on The Flood at all hours of the night and sees everything, but I like to think I'm browse it plenty. I don't really see many instances of people posting inappropriate links. I'm not going so far as to deny they happen; I could be completely oblivious.

Is it really a problem?

I haven't yet seen inappropriate links either, in any forum. I think people are just picking holes in stuff imo.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.
/slow clap for respect

:)
The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

I have no problem with these type of links. When I leave the cursor over the link, it tells me where it leads to, and from there I can see if it's something else from what the OP promised or not.

I've fallen very few times to meatspin and such things.
