Subject: Carpet banning. What is your opinion on it?

Who the hell do you think I am?

Unless it's a thread in which every single poster deserves a ban, then I don't think they should do that.

Just because your post hasn't been replied to, doesn't mean your post hasn't contributed to the topic's discussion. You're really pushing it, you know; if you go on about this further, I might just have to make a topic on the subject.

I guess. Still rather disappointing knowing that I failed to contribute to the discussion.

That's what moderators do, check if everyone in the thread deserves a warning or ban at least. You do know that you aren't supposed to reply to any topic that breaks forum rules; because in doing so, you bump the thread. You might argue that it's unfair if the user is only pointing out the the topic is against forum rules; but if comes to that, the user could just message the other user about it.

Either way, moderators only carpet ban topics that are extremely obviously against the rules, so much so that users should be able to tell that it'll be really bad to post there.

I just saw a green monkey nut shot a small tan lizard(?) in a gunny sack.

Perfectly okay as long as it's contained to the Flood.

I've said it once and I'll say it again, the term "carpet banning" implies careless use of moderator tools, when that's simply not the case.

When people say "oh, you carpet banned," they are 100% incorrect, every time. If there is a thread that's obvious spam, or the OP is a shock site, I will warn everyone who replied to the thread for replying to a forum disruption. If they've received a warning for the same thing in the past, they will get a three day ban, if they've been banned for three days before, they will get a seven day ban.

That's about as cut and dry, black and white, as you can get.

What would you call the feature then? I was trying to avoid saying carpet ban in my posts as well, but I don't know the correct word for it.

It's called moderating, rule enforcing, whatever you want to call it, but the term carpet ban is just flat out lazy.

So, you're in favor of the term "Liberally Application of Rule Enforcement"?

Got a question, comment, or concern? PM me.

Just don't reply to dumb threads. I know it is hard because there are zillions on the Flood, but you have to start to learn self control somewhere.

Yeah, but there are features for moderating called [numder]-day-bans, [number]-year-bans, permanent bans, IP bans, warnings and so on. We try to separately name just about everything so we can easily bring it up in conversation.

I'm just asking: What would you call it, if you don't want us to refer to them as carpet bans.

Citizens of Me! The cruelty of the old Pharaoh is a thing of the past. Let a whole new wave of cruelty wash over this lazy land.

Hear the word of Pharaoh. Build unto me a statue of ridiculous proportion. One billion cubits in height......that I might be remembered for all eternity!

And be quick about it!

Carpet banning doesn't really exist...

You must be new here. It's happened on more than one occasion.
