(WARNING. KINDA LONG. SORRY)

My Theory

John and links to the bible

Why did they decide that the Master Chief's name would be John? Was it, that they first looked at the passage in the bible, revelations 1 which talks about how one of Jesus' apostle, John heard the revelation of Jesus Christ from an angel. Verse 17 in that passage is "When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last.". As in John is the first Spartan II
they found, and will probably end up being the last to survive?

Number 7. Noah's ark
Or maybe, it's because the ark to protect gods good creatures from the flood was Noah's ark. In the name "NOAH" it has the same letters as there would be in the name "JOHN" except for the fact that the letters are in a different order, and Noah has "A" and John has "J". On a standard "qwerty" keyboard, "J" is 7 away from "A". (A-S-D-F-G-H-J. Count letters) which seems to be Bungie's number (also in the same passage as above, 7 is mentioned a lot).

Or a combination of both, or I could just be completely stupid and waaaaay too obsessed about Halo. Well either way I don't care. I have a theory, about the entire Halo story. I KNOW that HEAAAAAPS of people have talked about links between Halo and the bible yadayadayada, but I'm just gonna piece some of that together.

Ark of the Covenant. 10 Commandments. End of the UNIVERSE
I'm not really religious, but doesn't the ark of the covenant have something to do with the 10 comandments? Well I assumed that it did. I have a theory that God has seen over centuries, the 10 comandments which he created, are not being obeyed, by everyone. The intelligent creatures he created, do not care. I think this "Great Journey" is ending this sinful Universe. Ending it to make a greater good. In the first Cortana letter she says "I have seen your future........(two lines down)......There will be no more Sadness. No more Anger. No more Envy.". This might talk about how, she has seen how the gods will destroy this universe. Create one without envy, without anger, without sadness. No sins.

I say, that the Forerunners, are gods, or godlike. In the bible, Jesus is referred to as a forerunner somewhere (it's somewhere in there i think). They created the facilities to hold the flood. In case of the universe turning bad. Eventually, this flood would push everyone back to the ark. The covenant and the humans as we have seen so far. At the ark, maybe they would find refuge or be reminded of the gods somehow, and sins.

This is all I can put into words at the moment. This theory has got my head spinning. Too many things are swirling around up there. I have the ideas, I just can't write it down. When I got the story straight, I will write it from start to finish. At the moment, I'm just gonna put my theory up.

Cortana Letters. Some clues to end of Universe
Also, another thing. In the beginning of the first Cortana letter, she says "I have walked the edge of the abyss". Revelations 11:7 says "Now when they have finished their testimony, the beast that comes up from the Abyss will attack them, and overpower and kill them.".

In the second Cortana letter she says in one of the lines "And what of the Giants who formed this world?". I think that refers to the gods. She kinda blabbers on just like me in that letter, so it's hard to understand.
Talk about your theories on that

It is a good theory, however I do not believe that bungie would purposely NOT let us talk about religion, and yet make thier biggest game franchise based around it. Again, it's a good theory but i doubt it.

Don't follow in my footsteps; I walk into walls
my 360s blog

Personally I believe the forerunners to be a technologically advanced race such as the ancients from stargate the prophets ended up on the forerunner homeworld and while there society was still developing they discovered forerunnner technology were amazed and worshipped them as gods with the missinterpretation here and there 'great journey' anyone and the cortana letters were written before halo's story was finalizzed

Yeah, I also thought about the Gravemind, but couldn't put it in the whole picture yet. I tried to think what it means. Why did they call it gravemind. Maybe, it's thinking about the grave. Or thinking bad thoughts, about sins? Or maybe it just sounds like "Grave Mined" as in, digging out our own grave. The Covenant's excavation force has dug out the ark. I dunno something like that.

Digging out our own grave. Because doesn't it say that the Ark of the Covenant is so holy that if you see it, you will be disintegrated? So if we did get to the ark (activate it), we would all die. OMG! I just figured that out. I'm sure someone else already figured that out though

but it doesn't explain what the Gravemind actually IS, and what his purpose in Halo is. Oh well.

Q. What do you get when you add 1 man, 1 car, and 1 rocket built for a jet?

A. A black smudge on the side of a cliff.

Hey, great theory. What I don't think exactly fits in is the Cortona Letters. Could have the Halo story been pinned down for nearly 8 years now? It doesn't really make sence. Also, in the grand scheme of things in the Halo universe, we still know close to nothing.

I definitely think the entire plot for halo was thought about from the very beginning. I think Bungie didn't intend it to be a huge success, but when it did turn out to be incredibly popular with millions involved they just continued a story which they had already thought about when Halo 1 was being made.

Another thing to add, I'm not really religious, I'm just a huge halo fan, which is why I spent one afternoon researching Halo links and the bible. It would also explain why I have a halo shrine in my room

It's a great theory, but frankly I think you're over analyzing it a bit. I think (think) that Bungie just put all this together, maybe based off the Bible a bit, and just like to watch us put together end and end and come up with crazy theories (no offense though, as yours makes a lot of sense).

We aren't allowed to debate religions, creation/evolution, and stuff like that. I think that Bungie derived some of they're story from the Bible and by do what the OP is doing we are tracing they're steps or something like that.

"The vision of a champion is one who is bent over, drenched in sweat, at the point of exhaustion, when no one else is watching."

Also, another thing. In the beginning of the first Cortana letter, she says "I have walked the edge of the abyss". Revelations 11:7 says "Now when they have finished their testimony, the beast that comes up from the Abyss will attack them, and overpower and kill them.".
-do you have any idea who the beast is? its the antichrist.and hell is the abyss.

The Bible doesn't say that the world will end because people aren't obeying the 10 Commandments, He'll end the world because he said He would before there was even time. According to the Bible, before the world ends, there will be 7 years of tribulation that will start after a peace treaty is signed with Israel, the treaty will be a promise of peace between Israel and the surrounding nations, and out of Europe, a ruler will rise, he will have the power to deceive many, he will be charming, and he is the antichrist. It also says that Christ's church will be caught up to him in the clouds in the twinkling of an eye. That means that before the tribulation begins, or even during the tribulation, Christ's church will be called up to be with Him. The first 3 1/2 years are called the tribulation because of all the trials, the last 3 1/2 years of the world as we know it, are known as the Great Tribulation where billions will be killed for the sake of Christ. During that time, the devil himself will indwell in antichrist. The antichrist will even raise himself from the dead. Do not be deceived, for he will call himself the Christ, the Messiah, but it is merely the devil mimicking Christ to fool everyone who will be fooled. At the end of the Great Tribulation, there will be a war called Armageddon, where all the nations of the earth will gather with antichrist to try and defeat Jesus Christ. Jesus, conquering them, will flatten every hill, mountain, so that everything will be flat. Then, he will judge the world, casting the deceived ones into the abyss along with antichrist, antichrists false prophet, and the devil and all demons. There will be a new heaven and a new earth. Those who remained faithful to Christ will reign for 1000 years. After those years are up, satan will be unleashed for a time to deceive the children that were born during the millenium. Then the Great White Throne Judgement will take place where everyone single person who does not have Christ's blood on them will be thrown into the lake of fire for eternity. Then Christ and all believers that ever existed will be in the New Jerusalem where there will be no more sin. Jesus will reign for eternity. The Bible doesn't say anything about this happening because people weren't obeying the Ten Commandments, it will happen purely because He said it would and that people rejected Christ. ''For the sake of His saint only, will this time of tribulation be shortened. It is only a matter of time before Christ comes. So be prepared!

Bungie didn't decide Johns name, a writer did, who wasn't a part of the bungie crew (I don't think Eric Nylund is)

..You're not very bright, are you?

Great Theory. Perhaps when she says she walked the edge of the abyss, and a creature will come, she means a demon. Perhaps thats the demon she says she defied. "I have defied gods and demons."

The story writers for bungie created the story for halo yes. I never said that EvEryONe at bungie studios sat around at some table deciding the story. But the writers came up with this incredible idea which will be Halo. My post is just a theory, nothing else.
