The Bible doesn't say that the world will end because people aren't obeying the 10 Commandments, He'll end the world because he said He would before there was even time................(few lines down).........Then, he will judge the world, casting the deceived ones into the abyss along with antichrist, antichrists false prophet, and the devil and all demons. There will be a new heaven and a new earth

I know it doesn't say that the world will end because people aren't obeying the 10 commandments. The halo story is a completely new thing. I never said they just took stories from the bible and turned it into a first person shooter. But there might be little clues in the bible, that's all I'm saying.

John 117. The Abyss. End of the world. Think about it.

Jesus will take the deceived, throw them into the abyss, and a new world will be created. Like you said. Like I said (but in halo words and characters) it seems as if everybody has been decieved except the Gravemind and now Cortana since she would know.

I decided to add bold subheadings in my original post. I think there are a lot of people who just couldn't be bothered reading my theory because it's too long, which is why I put the subheadings. If you like me theory, please tell me. If you think it's crap....umm....don't say

Na, na if it's crap tell me.

No, no. Halo plot is Not from the bible. It's different. Instead of ending the world in armageddon, it's ending the world because it has turned into a world of sin. I know it might sound a lot like the bible but it's different

Yes actually I do have a life. I wish I had more time to play halo. I haven't played halo 2 for about 3 weeks now, haven't played halo 1 since.....god knows. I wish I had time to play them both again, go through the story line, see if there's anything I missed.
The bad thing is, I got my 360 now, and everytime I try to download the maps, there always seems to be some sort of problem. This is when I had gold membership. My friend did it fine, and I got fast enough internet. Oh well, I'll try again when I actually pull the sheet off my 360 and turn it on.

Another thing. In about 2002, after I read Halo:FoR, I had the idea that we'd (humanity) would win the war against the covenant, but we'd lose Earth. I guessed that because when Sam died, John was thinking something like he had seen the Covenant were not invincible. That they could be beaten. But at a terrible cost. I thought that sentence could be like a double thing. Meaning Sam's death, and the loss of Earth. Now, with this new theory of mine, this old theory doesn't fit in.

  • 05.15.2006 7:08 AM PDT

"Your destruction is the will of the gods, and we are their instruments."

I have been thinking the same thing, for guite a while now. I have one thing to add. The Arc of the Covenant is said to release death and chaos if opened. Could it be, that the Arc of the Covenant and the Arc of Noah are the same thing? I personally think that the Arc is actually the Arc of the Covenant in the game.

(I am not at all religious)

Have any of you read "Ringworld" by Larry Niven?
In it an alien race discover a ringworld made by an advanced race(Sound familiar?)
In the second book we find that the ring was made by the ancestors of the human race.Got it? Now if the same applies to Halo, why can only humans touch the Index? Why are there Forerunner ruins on Earth? And what is the Ark?
Simple. The Earth. An alien race found a suitable planet and coloniesd it. Going off into space they built ringworlds and forgot about the planet where the colonists bred and forgot their origins. This shows that Earth is probably the Forerunner homeplanet/colony and was attacked by the covenant to activate the Halos.Don't forget they were surprised to see humans on Earth.
Phew! Well? What do you think.

hmmm doesnt Gravemind say "I am the monument to all your sins"

perhaps he realises he was created to wipe out the "sinful" people?

i dont know..it fits, but is this just over zealous theorising?

i have a theory that the humans are the forerunners, well there decendants anyways, and that they havent actualy been wiped out at all. it would explain why the ark is on earth and the humans are to, yet nothing has been written down about them.

I dunno

I think that the forerunners had earth as a last resort if they ever needed to activate the rings (which of course they did) so that their race would not be totally wipedout. Earth was their ark from the power of the rings. I think humans in halo are the decendants of the forerunners and all but us were wiped out of the universe when the rings were activated.

I think the reason that we (the reclaimers of the universe) are the only ones that can use the key thingies to activate the rings is because the forerunners didn't want anyone else using the rings but themselves.

I also think it a little stupid the way the covanent knows that we are somehow related to the rings (because of the aforementioned keythingies) and yet they don't want to talk to us.

Hey, great theory. What I don't think exactly fits in is the Cortona Letters. Could have the Halo story been pinned down for nearly 8 years now? It doesn't really make sence. Also, in the grand scheme of things in the Halo universe, we still know close to nothing.

Actually, the Halo Bible/story has been pinned down since before Halo 1. Keep in mind Halo 1 was originally going to be a Mac title long before XBox.

As far as religious connections, you would have to be thick headed to deny them. They are definitely there, John 1:17 is clearly on purpose, the Ark, the Covenant, the Flood, all meticulously picked for specific reasons. I do believe that some of the plot can be fround by following these obvious connections. It's piecing them together logically, that has proven to be difficult. However, I do not believe that this is a religious game. By that I mean, yes, the religious undertones and inspiration are there; but God is not going to appear in Halo 3 and commence the Rapture. Does that make sense?

I don't know if you guys put this together yet, i am kind of lazy and dont read everything in this topic but...

Noah built the ARK to escape the FLOOD

One definition of an Ark is a place of refuge.

The fact that the aliens are called the Covenant cannot be a coincidence. There are just to many biblical references.

In The book of Genesis, God makes a covenant promising never to destroy mankind with another FLOOD, hence the rainbow.

It was god's promise to protect humanity against the flood. Wow another coincidence?

I think not. Halo definately has biblical references. Whether or not it is actually the story of Armageddon, that is unsure.

Another interpretation of the Covenant is that there is some type of debt to be repaid as Covenant can also mean a debt.

Nice theory, overall.

A few problems- you may be getting the Ark of Noah and the Ark of the Covenant mixed up. The Ark of Noah helped to escape the flood- interesting to note, God promised at this point in Genesis that he would never "flood" the Earth again- could have some meaning for the games, particularly since the Cortana transmission seen in the H3 trailer seems to be growing closer (are her and Gravemind coming to Earth?).

Also, the Ark of the Covenant is interesting in that other people, particularly the Philistines (heretics) thought that it had some kind of magical powers to help aid in battle. They stole it from the Israelites (whom God had a covenant with), and it ended up not helping them at all. In fact, it caused boils and all kinds of other cancerous and not-so-nice things. They returned it. Another interesting thing is that the Ark of the Covenant in the Bible is believed to house Moses' staff, as well as the Ten Commandments. If the Ark is not carried in the right manner (as David discovers), people are going to die just by touching it or looking at it. David had to study the old Scriptures just to figure out how to move the thing.

The topic poster also mentioned that "Jesus was a forerunner"- you were close, but just slightly off. And the fact that you're off is actually much more interesting than the original theory. In the Bible, JOHN was the forerunner to Jesus. Spiffy stuff there, if you ask me. Especially considering that MC is called a reclaimer.

i think the whole thing about humans being descendant of the forerunners could be true, as master chief has had his intelligence and use of his brain ramped up by technology. maybe this was the same as the forerunners (being humans in this thepry) simply did the same when they became technologically advanced.

this meddling with genetics was a bad thing though, as the forerunners created the flood (he is the "testiment to you sins"). this genetic engineering is deemed as bad, a sin, so fitting with the flood wipping out the evil do-ers , blah blah blah.

i do think though that the religious undertones are used only to help guide players to know what the good and bad characters are etc.

i dont think the game will have a big revelation, as this is how the god/bible thing really started etc. if bungie did that i think they wopuld lose a LOT of credibilty, as they are towing a fine line as it is really, in using the bible SO blatantly.

in the end it should just be a happy reminder of a species sins ultimately getting their commupance etc. hopefully, the whole thing shoud stay scifi, and remain simply a scientific affair.

Oh geez I forgot that he said that. Thanks. That could be another piece of evidence.

Well if he is a monument to all their sins, then he was created because of all their sins. So if the sinners are gone, there will be no need for a monument. Or no need for the gravemind/flood. meaning, if the sinners are gone, the flood will die. So that works with the halo story. Activating the rings kills all sentient life. Therefore killing flood through starving them.

My theory says that once the ark is found, all will die and be reborn into a new universe, one where there shall be no sin. Or something like that.
