ALL HAIL GABEN

I know I won't be graduating for a few years (i'm in 9th grade), but it never hurts to do some early looking.

What are some colleges to go to for the game industry? I remember hearing about how one has an internship thing with Bioware....I heard about another one on Texas where a few people who graduated form there made Fallout....

So, tell, link, whatever some colleges.

First learn some Computer science like then go into it.

You need to know what you want to do, in this industry, writer, programmer, artist the list is virtually up there on Bungie.net Careers.

Then do what is necessary to learn the skill you are looking for.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

I am applying to college with getting a degree in computer science. Not many colleges teach "gaming".

I know that.....I mean like, colleges that teach how to use programs like udk....

I remember awhile back, somebody posted in this forum that they were in a college in Canada somehwere....and that one was teaching him how to use UDK and some Autodesk programs.

College in Canada or University, over here its 10,000 CD Dollars per year in a University. Any University, but it depends how much cash you have willing to spend.

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

Risay pretty much has it spot on. There are so many facets that go into gaming. What piques your interest more? Programming physics or AI? Writing story elements or dialogue? Storyboarding the plot or coming up with artistic panels to get the "look" of the game?

Pretty much start with the general school of what you want to get into: computer science, writing/english, theatrics, design/art. In the later years of college, you can select classes that hone your education towards gaming and gaming related fields.

Why don't you just give me ONE SECOND!

Well there's VFS for 3D and Animation, many of those artists work in game studios or in film. There's DigiPen...

You can't just go to college and learn "game". Pick a field.

Another freshman who is addicted to video games and wants that to be his profession... you will more than likely change your major like three more times before you choose one.

RPI
WPI
MIT

Certain colleges have targeted programs that involve study of the industry and teach necessary skills. For example, RPI has the Games and Simulation Arts and Sciences program. WPI has Interactive Media and Game Development.

If the college you choose to attend does not offer any specific program for the field you are interested in, take other classes that teach relevant material and can be applied to the field.

The skills and knowledge are more important than the particular tools.

You can download student versions of Autodesk software for free if you have a .edu email address. Many online tutorials are available.
