So I'm asking this because it seems like every new book since GoO has had two or three new spartans just pop uo out of nowhere. In Fall of Reach, Halsey says that all Spartans save Grey team have been called to Reach for a new mission. But then Naomi just popped out of the blue in Glasslands. So how many S-II are there really?

My honor student can beat up your honor student.

That lie about all of the Spartans gathered here - save for Grey - will that come back to haunt me?

Halsey's Journal

We do not know how many Spartans there are currently. As of Glasslands the count in up to 40 successfully augmented candidates with 7 crippled/unsuccessfully augmented/dropped out(in Ralph-303's case) candidates. As there were originally 75 candidates actually conscripted into the program, this leaves 28 unnaccounted for, thought most are presumed dead.

Halsey mentioned that some of the Spartans may be rehabilitated or resuscitated at a later date after augmentations (many of the successful candidates could theoretically be classified here).

In some Spartans' cases (such as Jorge, Kurt, and Naomi) they were removed from the rest of the group for various known/unknown reasons. There may be more Spartans in this category that we don't know of. (ONI Black Ops, Special Programs, etc.)

I just wish Bungie or 343I would relese something with all the names of the spartans on it. I'm sick of thinking, "oh ok so thats all the spartans." Just to find out in the next book four new spartans have come out of nowhere.
