Any expert forgers have any advice on forging an Invasion map?
I'm about to start an Invasion project and I want a few tips.

It involves forging in water. Alot of it.
I plan on integrating submarines/sea craft into the map.

The easiest way to build something from the real world (at least to me) is to look at images of it. Try googling submarine photos and study how they are built. Try and relate its design to forge pieces and start mapping it out in Forge World. You'll probably need to use the circular ramps a lot to build the hull.

The same goes for any other kind of ship or real-world creation. To sink it you'll probably have to tilt the entire structure on a 5 or 10 degree angle.

There are also quite a few battleships that have been built for Invasion. Filter a search for Invasion over at ForgeHub and you should find some interesting ship maps that you can use as reference.

I'm not so sure about circular ramps, they'd limit space in the interior of the hull.

I plan to have one section of the battlefield (along with the 3rd phase objective) be in the water itself, in the sunken portion of the sub, They will be battling underwater, ya dig?

Oh that's interesting. Hmm...guess you'll have to go the polygonal route. As in, a lot of blocks to make a somewhat curved hull. That means lots of weird degree angles, which could get even weirder if you tilted the submarine/ship off the 90 degree axis.

needless to say, you're in for a treat. If you pull it off though it could be a really unique experience. Again, just keep looking at and drawing your own concept designs.

Built for Jetpack so it doesn't have hiding spots, but has cover that stops Jetpack abuse.

Power weapons between the two teams starting positions.

Make sure there are no holes to escape the map through.

I would assume a UNSC submarine would resemble a frigate in interior structuring, I may work off that, disguising the squarish complex with the exterior build.

Oh I see. Well in that case, studying aircraft carriers would be more to your liking, as they'd be easier to build than a playable submarine.

It'll be very difficult to build an intricate structure like that and make it look realistic at the same time. Still, if you can manage that I'll be impressed.

I mean things in the real world that we can relate to. You're building a real sub/ship, not a Covenant one or a made-up one. Therefore, it has to look believable.


Also, are you still hosting Invasion playtest lobbies? Radiation is ready to go.


Soon as I finish my own map, though I wouldn't hold your breath.

Fit pieces together like a puzzle if the pieces are individualized. Intricate designs can easily be created depending on the angles at which the pieces' edges are at.

30 degree diamond platforms are very good and easy to use; I even used them to make one of my favorites and most recognized by Reach players.
(I don't submit them to other gamers; it was hard to make some of those)

Anyway, just hope that helps a little.
