I might of forgot since signing up for Bungie.net, but does anyone know why Bungie.net asks for your name, city, state, postal code and country in your profile info?

  • 01.11.2012 8:49 PM PDT

It's not required.

Okay, so why do you think they want it in the first place then?

Trying something once will increace your chances of success, because you tried it. Try someting twice, and your chances increase yet again - seeing as you've done it. Try something a few thousand times, and your chances of success is exponentially increased; this increase would likely provide success every time

It's optional and the only real purpose I have seen was for the Beta Tester Sign-Up.

READ IT.

I won the Star. With this on Week 18.

You'd think they'd only ask for it during the beta test sign-up, if that was the only case...

"We live in a special time; the only time where we can observationally verify that we live in a very special time" - Lawrence Krauss.

I was a finalist :P

On top of the purpose of using it for the Beta Test Sign-Up, maybe the webteam collate all the data people provide, to give an idea of the geographical population of the site (although it may be inaccurate, given that it is not a requirement when signing up to Bungie.net).

If only the first point holds true, then maybe the webteam haven't removed it due to future Beta Sign-Ups; and this seems like a more convenient solution than removing and re-installing the feature to Bungie.net.

That sounds reasonable.

Who needs to know the exact address? They can just go door to door like a boss.

I lol'd at the absurd miscommunication that occurs whenever dibbs post something. Perhaps his brain is so highly evolved that he can no longer clearly communicate with lesser life forms, even among his own species.

So your trust can be abused, most likely.

Its an optional feature that only serves a purpose to them internally. Many companies ask their followers or community to include basic information (age, gender, location, etc). It helps them know who is using their products and services.

So they can abduct you/perform tests on you/have some information about their fan base/plot to rule the world.

That makes a lot of sense. Although, it'd still be useful to have a clearer idea of what that "purpose" would be, but I'm sure that someone (other than a Bungie employee) would of probably said it by know, if it was relatively known to the public. I guess it's one of those company business things.

Moreover, why is Recon still pertinent in the auto-responder explanation:Set an Auto Responder
Too popular or anti-social to answer your private messages? Send an auto response to those who send you messages.

Manual Mode allows you to choose which messages to send your pre-written response to. Handy if you respond to your PMs, but want to easily send a canned response to those who want your Recon.

I suspect llamas are secretly wizards. I <3 poptarts n' milk. I like me. Grimick is defined as: a logical parodox, the act of funnaling a potato down your throat, and a deliciously flavored muffin (with pecons and blueberries). Norway is the Swedish word for 'moron'. My sister has cancer, so i get to use handicap parking and cut small children in line at Disneyland.

"The pancake, my friend, has officially been flipped."

They're just really friendly ;) You know how it is.

Don't steal my thread, or so help me... *brandishes lazily*

If you really want to know, because it's fine the way it is. Recon is a good example that most users understand. Why change it? If it's only to keep things up-to-date, then it could go on the bottom of things-to-do 2012, which the webteam probably already has a list of. A list that has a lot more important things to do, such as making fall say fell in the reach forum description.

If you want to further discuss this, I suggest you make a topic of your own.

Posted by: Izak609Sorry hombre, I just wanted to slide that in because I noticed it a few days ago. I didn't mean to try to functionally derail or anything, just wanted to point something out about the profile page. And with that I digress.

As for pertinent information for your MAIN topic, not just the profile page in general, I really don't understand why Bungie wants all that info. It could possibly be the web team following the status quo of websites asking for that information from users.

Nah, I'm pretty sure that Bungie doesn't need to compensate like some companies. :D
