Quick question: do grenade launcher shots increase in damage as they bounce off surfaces? I've noticed it's much easier to outright kill someone with the secondary fire if I bounce it off the floor into them, so I was wondering.

I don't mean a direct hit. I mean I get kills far more consistently with the secondary fire (manual detonation) if I bounce it off the ground or a wall before letting it go next to them, versus firing straight at them.

Name's John. I'm a 21-year-old firefighter/EMT from lolhio who doubles as a die-hard Halo fan. I've been enjoying the franchise since 2001. My favorite iteration of Halo would have to be Halo 2 simply because I never got to experience the joy of a full-on Halo: CE LAN.

I've noticed this too. It almost feels easier to get a one-hit kill off of a bank shot, although I typically have no problems getting one from shooting straight either.

Grenades do slight damage to you if they come into contact with your shields. The grenade launcher works the same way. The EMP version of it does less damage than the regular fire, but this can be changed by bouncing the shot into them, which lowers their shields just enough that the EMP blast usually kills them instantly.

I'm pretty sure the acceleration of the grenade influences damage.

My problems [with Reach] are basically just full parties, mlg, and people who go out of their way not to get killed.

I don't know about bouncing... I don't think so. I do know they do more damage if there are shields to punch through first, though. As opposed to hitting someone without shields.

If the grenade is within mere inches of the target, it's an insta-kill. Bouncing doesn't matter unless you count the additional damage received from an impact.

On Default I'm pretty sure I've gotten kills shooting it straight into their face with the manual mode though. Full shields.

Will experiment.

I started wanting to get good with it when I realized it spawned every 90 seconds(!)
