There is hundreds of British rifles, and whether they are used or not depends on the branch or division of the military.

I don't know... $700 Billion is a lot of money. Not to mention if Bush didn't keep spending billions and billions on the missle defense system...

! billion/1800 (cost of M8) = a ton of bloody guns.

And the XM8 and OICW are two completely different rifles. I have heard recently that the OICW project was scrapped in favor of the XM8 due to money issues (OICW had a LOT of -blam!- on it), but i may be wrong.

Are you kidding me? You want Bush to pull the missile defense system and take a large portion of you defense out of commission? Why? Why replace all the M16-A2s and M4 carbines with another rifle when they work perfectly fine. At this point in time, you could question that if you know your guns, because many believe the M16 is an extremely unreliable weapon. Well I'll tell you what, I am living proof that its very reliable. I have use the C-7A1 which is a variation of the M16-A2, and not once has it jammed on me. I clean my rifle twice a day. Once before the firing range, and once after. If you learn to manage you guns, there is or at least I have found, never a problem. And by the way, all the guys in my regiment would tell you the same, because they naver have problems either.

I never claimed to know my guns, I was speaking purely on monetary and economic terms. What I read about guns, I understand granted, but I by no means claim to be even a novice in those terms.

Simply put, you took it out of context. The point was if this gun is so "great" then pulling money from specific regions where it is inefficient (and if you understood economics this would make sense) and put it where it would be MOST efficient (ie something that works), and on top of it all, there would be more efficiency due to the producer surplus of the gun (and a lot of consumer surplus as well) from the lower price and durability of this gun. That is, as it is on paper and from various "interviews" I just casually watched.

Statistically, the M16 is, because the carbine design of the M4 is generally less powerful and accurate. Of course, their are people who will swear by the M4 and people who swear by the M16. It kinda depends.

And power and accuracy arent always good when you need a more compact weapon. Thats why the weapon used depends on your branch of service (counter-terrorists, for instance, prefer SMGs)

Just to let you know, when I said "If you know your guns", I wasn't talking about you, I was talking about an military personel of North America. I wasn't questioning you or challenging you in any manor in that statement. I dont know where you got that from? I was simply speaking in generaly for those who have fired weapons and use them frequently, many believe the M16 is unreliably because it jams, but manage your gun and it wont happen.

I for one would take a C-8 or an M4 carbine over and M16 any day, I just like the recoil on that rifle and have learned to get used to it.

I'll try and bring this topic back on tracks here. First, the XM8 looks strikingly simular to the new assault rifle in Halo2...but that doesn't surprise me. A lot of the weapons in Halo, at least the human ones, always were base on either real life weapons, or weapons being developed. I do believe that the old assault rifle in Halo would have been a true great rifle if it was actually existing today. Having a magazine of 60 rounds is hard to pass up, regardless of the rounds size and velocity.

I only quoted you because I disagree with pulling the missile defense system, I just dont think it is a good idea. Its just a personal opinion though.

Well seeing as Halo is a sci-fi futuristic military game, whats wrong with talking about the military in modern day versus that of the future military?

While we're on advancements, what's the advantage of caseless ammo?

It might be cause its lighter? And it might be smaller so you can get more rounds into a clip

Well I was reading and I heard it could be more accurate too? But I thought that had more to do with gun design?

Don't know.

The original concept was thought of during the 1960s by the German army. They wanted a weapon with a high probability of the first round fired to hit the target. Heckler and Koche worked on the first concept which was called the G-11. The main idea is to have a weapon that has an extremely fast and accurate three-round-burst mode, in short.

The main thing in the alpha version of the G-11 was it fired extremely fast, but eventually turned out to be a project to make a weapon with a very quick fire rate with a three-round-burst and also have great accuracy.

Only thing weird on the G11 is where the clip goes.
Like how does the bullet get in the barrel from the way the clip goes in?

Personally, I would much rather see the XM8 replace the standard issue M16-A2 and/or the M4 carbine over the OICW. The XM8 has 4 variations and as poppy said, it is very easy to change the weapon in a quick matter of time. Here take a look at this, http://www.thermaldynamics.com/pictures/xm8-2.jpg
