You don't need to say ''imo'' when stating the facts.

so if this isn't replied to because of the 14 pages of posts here, i might risk being banned and just make another thread about it, but SOPA isn't the only act threatening the internet. PIPA it seems also presents a threat, but less of one and is being slipped under the drama that sopa has created. is bungie aware of PIPA? i'm not sure on the details, of either act, like many of you, but i would like to make known SOPA is not the only act to be fearful of. so is PIPA, which is the Preventing Real Online Threats to Economic Creativity and Theft of Intellectual Property Act of 2011.

You don't understand the US political system.

Both the House of Representatives and the Senate have a version of a bill to protect against online piracy - SOPA and Protect IP.

When the time comes for it to be voted on, a committee would work on combining the two.

If the Senate (which I believe has SOPA) voted and approved first, SOPA would be brought to the House where the House would work on comparing SOPA to their own bill - Protect IP. They vote on the combination and that gets kicked back to the Senate for approval.

The end result is one bill - more of a merger between the two.

well i pretty much have the understanding of an average person who doesn't regularly follow politics, as are a majority of the people who don't support SOPA simply because they saw some artcile or video concerning it and don't really have a true understanding of whats going on or the process behind it. when they, i guess, combine the two would it still be called the SOPA act? once they change it the SOPA act would be considered dead, however they would have another differently named bill that does approximately the same thing. would a majority of the SOPA followers understand this? i doubt it. in most eyes the SOPA act would be concidered dead and that's all they would be concerned about unless someone else launched another marketing campaign. if none of this makes any sense then just never mind and i'm having a stupid moment.

oh, and -blam!-.... a moderator saw that >.> haha, well don't worry i won't make a thread.

and did you really make that account just to post that reply?.........

Congressman Who Wrote SOPA Violated Copyright Law

lol... That's the problem. The people supporting SOPA do not know exactly what they are doing (or at least not enough). This bill is a very clumsy and irrational way to stop piracy. It is like they just threw stuff together without sorting it out.

Congress has enough problems already, this is just adding more pain onto the pile of agony.

So, yeah. That happened.

If you want to know how Bungie feels about SOPA, check out our official statement, delivered bravely by my fearless leader.

Feel free to discuss this issue. Let the debate rage in this thread, and ONLY in this thread. Be excellent to each other. The rules still apply. SOPA is more than a political issue. It's a phenomenon that would impact the industry in which we play, as well as the mediums we use to interact with you fine people.

Beyond this conversation, the laws that govern Bungie.net do not change. Political debate is not something that we want to see here. On this rarest of occasions, we are breaking our own rules. Such is the privilege of ruling the domain that you host.

I have been following SOPA and PIPA from the start. I also have been checking this thread daily. however i am having trouble ascertaning the exact status of the bill, are both sopa and pipa in committee being revised or in committee being voted on to go to the floor?

Interesting. Will this be like Obama saying he doesn't support Gitmo? Etc?

I'd love nothing more than the WH to nuke this POS legislation from orbit with an inverse tachyon beam. I just feel like it won't happen and all the support is sugar-coated fluff.

I really do hope that isn't the case. With such promising ideals going into office the flip-flopping and pandering has gotten to be a bit much. Too bad we can't have a new democratic candidate this year...

I was interested to see his take on it. It seems that a handful from both parties support it.

Glad he picked the right side.

CONCLUSION
Step 7 is in motion

Thank you to all those coming out against the bill

The bill in its current form has reportedly been shelved indefinitely by Congress.
