I play BTB often, and get objective game modes most of the time, such as multiflag, assault etc.
At the start of the game all my teammates will rush for power weapons, scatter off in vehicles and leave our base deserted within a matter of seconds. On very rare occasions I would join them, but I prefer defending my base rather than attacking, so I'd hang back with a DMR and maybe a power weapon.
When the enemy approaches our base I would kill them, defending my flag etc. The enemy would continue to do this and I would continue to kill them, racking up kills and defending my base even longer. By the time the game ends I would have roughly 35-40 kills with very little deaths. I'd gain a feeling of accomplishment, knowing that I defended my base well enough to stop the opposition from scoring.
Yet sometimes after the game I would receive messages from the opposition, saying how im a camping -blam!- and to actually go for the objective. On very rare occasions I would even receive rage messages from my teammates, saying to help my team attack next time.
Now, im wondering if this makes me a bad player, in terms of defending and getting a lot of kills, rather than attacking with my teammates. What are your thoughts?

DO YOU WANT TO BE A NINJA?

Then I have three words for you. Team Flying Ninja

Alternatively, add me and we will be happy to tell you about ourselves.

No. Ignore them. In a 2-way objective game, it is only natural that roles should be divvy'd up. I'm normally that person who hangs back and defends. How often do you play a game where you rush to get their flag, only to have the enemy take yours whilst your gone? It's only tactical to have someone left behind. As soon as you see them rushing, your team can counter-rush, safe in the knowledge there is someone left behind perfectly capable of defending, leaving the attackers to not have to worry about their brief advantage turning into a draw again. Or, failing that, they know they will at least get an extra few second's notice (invaluable) if the defender is about to be overrun, and back them up.

Both you and the OP might want to check your voicemails. China called me to let you know that they left a message on your voicemails, and they havent gotten an answer back yet.

OT: You choose how to play the game OP. just play it and enjoy, and laugh when someone hates. That makes them even angrier, and then the comedy will ensue.

You're not ignoring the objective like some stat whores do. It's pretty frustrating as a team mate to see your fellow player getting kills cheaply though. Can't please everyone, do what you want.

  • 01.14.2012 7:44 AM PDT

i do that when i play with a team in BTB
nobody seems to pay attention to the flag,so ill defend while everyone is banshee and tanks etc

Let me put it simply for you. During a 2 way CTF game, it says above the flag, defend. That is one of 2 objectives which you are following. So no, it doesn't make you a bad player. Otherwise it would be like having a football match with 11 strikers and no defenders or goal keeper. People who send you messages are stupid.

Achieved a Killimanjaro twice in Halo 3 and got one in Reach. (It was Grifball but still counts!)

That kind of performance would make you a premier player of a team that needed a defender close to the base for objectives.

I don't mean to brag I don't mean to boast but I got hummus for these MINI TOASTS!

You are very noble for staying back and defending. Ignore those messages.

What's your gamertag? Your win ratio in objective games will tell you if this play style is helpful or not.

Really? after I write 8 lines, you're going to call "wall"? Piss off.

  • 01.14.2012 5:15 PM PDT

no, cause its about a premise. your premise is to hang back and do w/e. other ppl have a different premise. Theres no really way to say if you suck or not just by executing one premise of many that exist.

Though going by ppl messaging you and insulting for doing what your doing. i would say you are quite good at doing w/e it is your doing. remember ppl dont complement one another when it comes to games. they are too caught up in there ego. so just take any insult after you've beaten them as a complement.
