Subject: Should future Halo games/Books discussion not be allowed in Universe?

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

I go on the universe forum a lot and I see a lot of stuff about Halo 4 and new Halo novels. But the new Halo game will NOT be made by Bungie, so why is it being discussed there?

The Bungie Universe Forum is for discussion of all elements of the storyline, backstory, plotline, and canon elements of all Bungie games, including Halo, Marathon, Oni, Myth, and others. Additionally, this forum is for discussion about Bungie's potential future projects.

The key there is BUNGIE'S Games, Halo is now managed by 343i. I think that Halo discussion should be allowed but NOT for any future Halo games. (Halo CE, Halo 2, 3, ODST, and Reach should be okay to discuss because they were made by Bungie). But, I am kind of unsure at the same time, Halo as a series was made by Bungie but new chapters are being added that are not made by Bungie.

I think future Books would be the only "future" Halo content that should have story discussion. But, even then that is debatable.

I think that maybe not allowing it would be a good thing. 343i is carrying the mantle now and there are dedicated forums for JUST Halo 4's campaign and Halo storyline in general.

What are your thoughts about this? Should Bungie allow future Halo discussion (Halo 4+) in the Universe forum?

I just don't like how the universe forum went from clean and well thought out discussion on topics such as marathon's relation to oni or myth to discussion of the Halo universe only (boooooring).

The Halo universe was written by Bungie. The nerds in the Universe forum have a right to talk about new Halo novels and Halo 4, and your calls for censorship are merely making a mountain out of a molehill.

This is just silly.

I have tried making Myth story line threads and I have had people report me for-

not posting about Bungie games" *picard-faceplalm.JPG

The sad fact is most people here only play Halo. But that is understandable, Halo is a widely popular game and the newest release.

BUT, I think future Halo discussion should be forbidden. Because they are NOT Bungie games and their stories are not Bungie's.

So you could say Halo 4 and so on is not canon with Bungie's canon.

They actually only have that "right" (if you forget that you lost all rights when you stepped into this forum...) if they keep their discussion relevant to Halo games that were made by Bungie.

Who the hell do you think I am?

I don't think that just because Halo isn't Bungie's game anymore, means that we shouldn't be aloud to talk about it.

My point is Halo 4 isn't a game Bungie is making, it is made by another company, Rutherford it is not a Bungie game. and the Universe forum is for the campaign discussion of BUNGIE games.

Bungie may of made the Halo series but they aren't making any more Halos so none of the new Halo games are Bungie's.

The only thing I could see being allowed in terms of new content is new Halo novel discussion.

I say we make a separate forum for the discussion of the Halo universe to try to reconstruct the glorious Universe forum to how it used to be.

He's only saying that future games shouldn't be discussed; and, if I have my facts straight, I'm pretty sure you aren't supposed to discuss any games that aren't made by Bungie either way.

I find that to be pointless. Halo has had it's time, it is time for a new game to take control. Halo's made by Bungie will never be forgotten BUT why should we use up the universe forum for games not even made by Bungie?

Like you don't talk about Halo Wars or Myth 3 in the universe forum.

Plus most Halo discussion seems to be about multiplayer and confused people who don't know 343i has like 10 forums for every Halo game and their own canon forums.

I'm aware that rights were stripped at the door. Regardless of what the out-dated forum descriptions say, the Halo universe was made by Bungie; and discussion for the story past Halo 3 will likely always be permitted. Any calls for censoring discussion for a story written by another company in a Universe created by Bungie is ludicrous.

This entire thread is just silly.

That is my point, it isn't Bungie's story, it is someone elses. It may be set in the same "universe", but is NOT a Bungie game and breaks the rule about non-Bungie game discussion.

I have seen topics about Halo Wars have been locked too, because Halo wars was also not made by Bungie.

I have no problem and I encourage people to discuss Halo story in the universe forum but once you go to future game, it isn't really Bungie's territory anymore.

Traffic isn't high enough in the Universe Forum for this to be an issue. Bungie technically didn't write/publish any of the novels, but they're still on topic in there, am I right?

Again, non issue; what are we talking about?

I think books are a grey area because they are still being written by people like Karen Travis who have written books for Bungie before with Halo.

"non-issue"- I am just bringing up a point that Bungie does not own nor is making in any way Halo 4 - beyond and having discussions of non-Bungie Halo games is kind of "off-topic" because they are NOT Bungie games.

You know nothing of the Universe forum! I will admit I have not tread there with my usual frequency recently but that is only because it is a shell of it's former self with little to discuss.

In days gone by without the discussion of the Halo Novels and the information they provided there would be NO Universe forum. Some of the best threads in the Universe are built off of the information you would so callously disregard as being not related to Bungie.

Bungie created the STORY of Halo and it has always been a story driven game, at least in the opinion of those who frequent the Universe. That story is an essential part to that forum and the community that goes there. Without it, the Universe would be a dramatically different place, and when I say different it would not be a change for the better.

The fans of that story line have gathered in the Universe forum and continue to discuss it amongst themselves and as long as it avoids gameplay discussion, as that is NOT the point of the Universe. I see no reason why a story that was created by Bungie should not continue to be discussed on their website, even if they are no longer crafting it. To say otherwise is, in my humble opinion ignorant. In fact this is the angriest I have been about a post in a very long time.

Edit: In fact my anger has caused me to break by Bungie.net new years resolution. That lasted all of 14 days.

Cry Havoc And Let Slip The Dogs Of War.

OP your bringing up something that isn't a real issue. Halo was still created by Bungie, yes they are not managing it anymore but they still created the Halo universe. I would guess they would still be able to talk about Halo in that forum.

Again Ken you are making a big deal over nothing really. I don't see the harm in it once so ever.

I see what you are saying and this is very debatable. Because on the rules it says the canon of Bungie games, not games made by different companies.

It just depends how Bungie wants to define it. I think Halo is a great series and I am glad it has such a huge story but we have to consider a new universe is emerging also.

Bungie no longer supports the Halo Universe, its still there for discussion.

Furthermore, Bungie created the Halo Universe, sure the rights to Halo went to 343, but thats for creating future games and supporting Reach, etc...

So by that logic it should be against the rules to discuss any past games made by Bungie.

No, I wish more people would talk about older Bungie games, something different.

But, all those games were MADE by Bungie, not by a different developer.

I am just seeing how people feel about future (non-Bungie) made Halo discussion. I know this is confusing having a game not being made by Bungie and having it part of the "same" universe.

No matter what we say in this topic, I'd like to point out that the discussion of future Halo titles being allowed in the universe forum is really only up to Bungie; but currently, the forum's descriptions and rules say that we aren't supposed to discuss content that isn't made by Bungie. I believe we should respect that until further notice.

It is okay to discuss Halo Wars, Halo: Legends, Halo: Waypoint, as long as the discussion pertains to the Halo Universe and its fictional elements. For general, non-fictional discussion (art opinions, likes/dislikes, etc.) as well as discussion covering non-Bungie games, use the Flood Forum.
