Name's John. I'm a 21-year-old firefighter/EMT from lolhio who doubles as a die-hard Halo fan. I've been enjoying the franchise since 2001. My favorite iteration of Halo would have to be Halo 2 simply because I never got to experience the joy of a full-on Halo: CE LAN.
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.
Oh yeah, and boot Zome.
There once was a man who was born with an extra chromosome. This man went on to work at a little company known as Bungie. You see, Bungie was working on a little game called Halo. Unfortunately, something was missing from Halo. Halo was missing a vital component of its weapon sandbox: an automatic weapon. Thus, the assault rifle was born. This development was fine, however, the man with the extra chromosome could not seem to make it through a playtesting session without breaking down and crying from a lack of kills. You see, up until that point, the assault rifle was a pick-up only weapon. However, the rest of Bungie feared for the emotional well-being of Extra Chromosome Man and so, to soothe his soul, Bungie made it possible to start with the assault rifle. This way, Extra Chromosome Man would not have to aim in order to get kills, but those who could aim could still suffiently outslay him to win using the pistol or sniper rifle (even the assault rifle would work, but less often due to the decreased skill gap). This development, too, was okay because the players could still select which weapon type they would prefer to (a'la Slayer Pro or Slayer). However, this balance was not meant to be, for with the arrival of Halo 2 came the discarding of the assault rifle in lieu of the SMG. In addition to this, there was the advent of online play via Xbox LIVE. Somehow along the way, Extra Chromosome Man's accommodations became a mainstay for the playlists of Matchmaking. No longer could players choose between automatic or semi-automatic (or in this case, burst fire) weapons. Now, in non-specialized playlists, players would be forced to play one or the other. It was absolute chaos.
A ray of hope came with the release of Halo 3 (the AR saw its rebirthing at this point). You see, Halo 3 had implemented a voting system having learned from the mistakes of Halo 2. Unfortunately, what Bungie had not counted on in their attempts to curtail Extra Chromosome Man's accommodation rampancy was the fact that Extra Chromosome Man had many others like him. Often, AR starts would be chosen over BR starts, much to competitive players' dismay. This is a trend that would only worsen as ranked and social playlist separation was eliminated in Halo: Reach.
And so thus the AR start was born, or rather, the prevalence of AR starts.
The End
