I am stoked for Halo 3 but there is something that I just dont get.

I guess i just dont understand what happened to the human forces. Most of the forces should be around Earth at this point but the Covenant, even in a state of civil war cut through them like a hot knive through butter. What happened to the MAC guns? I seem to recall a quote from H2 that went something like "nothings gunna get by us in one piece". Yet before the level had ended a capital ship had snuck through. Also we really have no idea what the human fleet is like. I think we have seen (not including the MAC station) a total of 3 or 4 human ships that have any decernable features. I think I actually know more about the Covenant fleet. Does bungie just not like space battles? The one at the begining of H2 left a lot to be desired. I guess it just seems to me like one second that UNSC is there and then the next its completely gone. I really hope we get to see some kind of ship to ship skirmish in H3. The human forces cant be that nieve and inept.

The Covenant have technology like a thousand years ahead of humans in Halo. They can go through hyperspace faster than human vessels, have shielding on their vessels unlike human vessels, have weapons that instantly melt through titanium, and have many more troops than Earth does. According to the books, the first time a Covenant vessel was every defeated, it was outnumbered ten to one. And a Mac Gun does not instantly destroy a Covenant ship, but it does lower the shields a good bit.

I think he was trying to say that he wanted more space battles. Not, "Why is the covenant more advanced than humans?"

You mean space slaughters

Halo CE......(sigh) the good ol' days......

“Go, stranger, and to Lacedaemon tell that here, obeying her behests, we fell.”

i dont know about you guys but i found myself extremely pissed off and overcome with disbelief, when i watched cairo stations doors open and the human fleet get torn to shreds, i saw so many human ships exploding i couldnt believe it, if bungie intended them to die that easily then i see no reason why the covenant didnt tear them to pieces, and that was only against fifteen ships!!! i agree with the person before, i think bungie just hates space battles

wrong, the covenant are far more advanced than humans.

For example: They can guide huge blobs of plasma towards a target. PLASMA... guided plasma.

that's all.

finally someone else wonders how heck did earth lose so fast. i mean 298 MAC guns(2 were destroyed) how the heck is it possible for the covenant to take all those out when sarge said that the mac guns can tear through those capitals ships with ease? the MAC guns shoulda have taken out a large chunk of the covenant fleet. also at the end of halo 2 we saw the battle going on and there was no large fleet i could see or floating ripped MAC guns all over the place.

But you ahve to remember that all the covenant technology is borrowed from the forrunners and EXTREMELY in-efficient. Keys alone took out around 3 or 4 covenant ships in one UNSC Frigate. So i dunno what your talkinfa bout but it is possible for the humans to fight back. They put up a real good fight on Reach, the covenant just sorta overwhelmed them rahter than out fought them.

And we must also remember that this is 1/3 of the way through the game, that can be up to 5 levels. So it really doesnt happen all that fast. Ill bet it has a huge cinematic in the beggining with space battles and crap happening, and then we will go to MC on the Forerunner ship and that is where it will start off.

The forces that attacked Earth with Regret were extremely small compared to what the covenant uses to glass planets such as Reach. Imagine even just half of all the fleets from HIgh Charity following Truth to earth....lots and lots of covies, not to mention that the cutscene is taken from 3/4 of the way through the game, so that means lots of fighting happens before that.

I want to know how many ships did high charity? because during the cut scenes showing high charity it looked like the covenant had like 300 ships. i mean in the book first strike the mc had taken out 500 ships ready to attack earth. prephaps there are 300 ships always guarding high charity like the 300 mac guns guarding earth. it just doesn't make sense how those covenant morons won. they were at war with eachother and fights were happening within the fleet . shouldn't there be issues with the fleet following orders?

not to mention...SHOOTING PLASMA. Here on earth we can't even keep plasma in a fusion reactor running without expending more energy than we get. The covenant are shooting guided blobs of plasma. I think Abriel makes a good point.

We dont know how many ships there were at High Charity. there were say 300 gaurding, but who knows how many more inside the city, remember, we have only seen the religious districts, not the covenant army bases in the city. And the elites lost on High Charity, so most ships were in brute control, although there was still fighting.

Well, i also remember that humans have an advantage. AI. The covenant made an attempt, but it failed to defeat cortana. Cortana also increased the efficiency of covenant weapons by 90% when they took over the Covenant ship in FIrst Strike

WRONG! The Covenant have AIs. f you read the books, you will know Cortana had to defeat a self-replicating AI aboard the Ascendant Justice.

WHY DOES EVERYONE THINK THE COVENANT ARE INVINCIBLE!

They arent. Human vessels have MAC guns on board! So they can also fire 50 megaton shells at the covenant. Not to mention thier missiles and nukes. The covenat ships cant take an Orbital MAC round, because those are 2 times larger than the ship based guns. The Ship based ones take 2 shots to kill a cruiser. So dont think its so impossible for the humans to win. The humans can put up a really good fight.

@ Spartan117atHalo: READ MY POST NEXT TIME It says in there they made an attempt but cortana defeated it. And she was the one who was self replicating, not the AI.

No matter what you do in life, you will disappoint someone.
No matter what you say, you will offend someone.
No matter what you think, someone will think you're an idiot.

Find and eliminate these people.

I think (been a while since I read the books) that the covenant AI's were incredibly basic. Then there was one far more advanced than any of the others, which led me to believe it could in fact be a forerunner AI.

Sure they cant put up a good fight, but once their space fleets are defeated by the superior number and speed of the Covenant ships, the earth ground forces crumble as we have seen before.

WHoa, no need to get all mad. I was just saying Covenant AI's exist. Also, the Covenant can be defeated, but the problem is that they do more damage to human ships than human ships do to them...and the covenant are numerous.

On that subject, the Covenant ARE in a civil war. That should aid humanity.
