Subject: Alternate Fire Mode

the gun pointed at the head of the universe

Needler could have a full needle discharge, kind of like a shotgun. that would be cool.

that's scary

No offense OP, but I saw a thread like this on Waypoint. Personally, I would hate for something like this in any Halo game.

Just doesn't seem to fit into what I think of Halo.

No point to it, when you think about it.

It's always bothered me that you have a huge blade on the back of a gravity hammer yet cannot assassinate with it...

That said, how about if nades had a secondary mode which enhanced the kinetic force, but softened the damage, to be used for grenade jumps, and forcfully moving weapons/objects

I like it and it would also work well within the "tap or hold and release" system Halo employs to accomplish dual fire modes.

Plasma pistol - tap to fire, hold then release for overcharged shot

Grenade launcher - tap to fire, hold then release for EMP blast

Frag grenades - tap to throw, hold then release for a delayed, less damaging, more forceful explosion

eh, I kinda like it, but kinda don't at the same time. If we were to have different firing modes, couldn't it just be to switch the weapon between fully auto, semi auto, and single shot? Though I wouldn't mind having some customization of the weapons like battlefield...maybe an actual sight for the AR? Or laser sight on my trusty magnum? Just a thought

Im pretty sure that wasn't the magnum and it was a different pistol all together

Having different firing modes would require a dedicated button on the controller used solely for switching firing modes. Alternate Ammo pick ups, that modify your weapon's attributes for a limited number of rounds, forces players to go after the pick up rather than just spawning with the ability to switch firing modes. Perhaps one weapon's Alternate Ammo could give it the ability to burst fire but even still my first point, about forcing map movement, remains true.

Nope. SouthPole isn't a person. He's the avatar of the force of tryhards everywhere. He stalks the web looking for retards to set straight. He can not be stopped by mere bans or thread locks for he shall rise anew.

That's not a pistol. It's a new weapon that will be used for destructible environments.

I miss grenade jumping so much it hurts

Haha, i agree. Tilt the needler forward and pray nothing survives... It almost seems sinister. The needles would need to explode out though, not just fire at normal speed. It would also have to lose its homing capability.

I realize this, so why not put that function on the d-pad just like in battlefield? think about before you completely shoot it down; we don't use the d-pad at all in multiplayer unless your controller settings are different

Hello. Name's Brian. Look, if you're looking for a flame war with me, just open up the Flood and write up some not-nice things about religion and I'll bring my nukes to the party.

If you want some other way to contact me, you can forget it.

If you're interested in some of my work, you can check my homepage out.

It's a nice mechanic, but I can't imagine it working on Halo.

The point is that it may be a very interesting mechanic that I've seen on games such as Timesplitters 2 (2002) but the way I picture it, they don't have much of a place in Halo.

Maybe in CoD, maybe in Timesplitters, but probably not in Halo. Not like this, anyway.

I think we should just stick to what we've already got.
