I'm not that active, but never dead.

I don't know if any of you have noticed, but there is way too many contests happening simultaneously. I realise that contests draw the community together, but when I first made my Caption Contest oh so long ago, I did not expect to spawn a swarm of them.
If I had my way, I would have some of them deleted untill the others are done. Having too many contests at once makes them seem worthless. Supply and Demand people. Right now we have too much supply, and not enough demand for contests.

So.

If you have a contest idea, wait for some of the ones already running to finish. And above all, join the 7t h Column Contests Chapter. They regulate any contests currently running and can help you organize yours.

Agreed. It would be nice of all the contest creators, could work together. It is nice to see all the contests, but the downside is that it no longer is a fun thing, as it comes far too regular. Contests are great, but don't overdo it.

its like a large force of win going through fusion, thus creating a chain reaction of a huge asplosion of win destroying any fail within its awesomeness.

This should belong in the Classifields....as you are promoting a group.

Ah... sort of is. Its a bit of a paradox between this forum and the classfieds.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

Its not such a big deal sense they are all run by the members.

And not everyone is participating in every contest.

Id rather have a bunch then none.

An advertisement in the form of a rant. Superb! :-D

Wrong. I am not promoting it in the sense of spam, this is a real problem. I used to like Contests, but now there are just too many. Besides, unlike most Chapters, that group is for organizing the 7th Column and making it better. Much like the TCC.

If you can consider this post as an advertisement, then you better consider this one as an advertisement as well.

I pointed out a problem, and unlike most compliants, I also suggested a solution.

Besides, I'm not even an active member of that group. The only reason why I'm even a member is so I can communicate with Butane on cross-organizing 7th Column Contests and The Coucil Chambers. It's purely administrative.

Sorry for trying to help the community and organizing this rabble into something similar to what it once was...

Well said, MAZ. I actually wanted to delay the contest I just started up but I didn't. I dont really know why, but I just didn't. Dont worry though, it'll be a lot different from here on. The only reason this became a contest infested forum was because we weren't organised enough. I mean, the contest itself were organised very nicely but the way we timed all of these contest were just horrible. I'll talk to Butane about this issue more indept and try to find a soultion.

Wait, I'm confused now.

I thought that the contest makers were acting of their own accord and just rampantly posting contests. For a second it reminded me of Past-Underground with all the Halo 3 topics.

But you're saying that they were all made in the Contests Chapter?

They were organised in that group, for the most part. The contest makers had the final say, really. What we really need is a rule about this, i'm going to talk to Butane the founder of that group and see if I can come up with the rules for the actual group.

Perhaps a "SCC APPROVED" sign would be appropriate for all future contests.

This way we can know for sure if they are ligitamate, what with prizes and the various accoutremonts...

Maybe. Hmm, what I said earlier was somewhat false. It seems to me that we might have sparked a contest craze. There are some contest going on that are from members who are not in the group. This makes my statement totally false. Okay, so what you said could work but that might be going a little too far. We dont want people think that we are l337.

No joke littlerat, I was about to post that. Seriously. Except like this...

No YOU are a contest...

Ah well. I say, the more contests the better! If no-one takes part they'll just drop down, and many of them (avatar contests, etc.) are just ways of generating more interest in things that are already available (e.g. avatar submissions), as it were. =)

Chairleg Productions presents: 'Console Wars' and 'Games as Art?' (also on Halo Waypoint).

I agree that this is certainly an issue. The problem really is that people can do whatever they want to in regards to setting up competitions (as long as they follow site rules etc) and nothing we say can stop that.

The only thing i could suggest would be to have an agreement with anyone who wants to make these competitions to decide when each contest is held. I won't comment on how this agreement is to be made or where, but needless to say a little member organisation wouldn't hurt.

Don't get me wrong, i love having contests and i admire the community for taking matters into their own hands rather than waiting for Bungie to hold them. However, having so many contests at the same time and holding the same contest but by different people is confusing. This confusion is not necessary and it makes sense to get some form of organisation into these various contests.

We should have a "Contest to End all Contests" contest. Whoever possesses enough skills to simultaneously win, and therefore end, all contests will receive four (4) US dollars to use in the Bungie store.

(Prize may or may not exist.)
