I <3 Halo:Reach - amazingly fun and best campaign + amazing Soundtrack
I <3 Halo 3:ODST - best soundtrack + Firefight + Coastal Highway and Mombassa Streets, amazingly unique campaign.
I <3 Halo 3 - best multiplayer levels + Forge + best Custom Games + soundtrack
I <3 Halo 2 - amazing huge fun campaign + soundtrack + Fun multiplayer
I <3 Halo: CE - started it all

I don't get why people say this, that the jetpack breaks the map flow and control. I've dominated countless games with all the enmies used jetpacks.

Seriously, prove me wrong on this. Give em a real, legit reason why you think jetpacks ruined Halo.

What playlist was this and did the people who jetpacked knew what they were doing?

I'm a pretty good jetpacker and it makes map control pointless on maps on a lot of maps like Asylum or Uncaged. Your entire team can jetpack up and teamshoot them easily while they're exposed. No need to get a good angle on the other team or have flank them when you can all just jetpack straight up into the air.

I know right? Hell, Jetpack was the very first thing I asked when I played Halo 3

  • 01.14.2012 9:34 PM PDT

Hi.

It really does.

You probably played some retards who jetpacked straight up into the air off spawn in TS and determined that jetpack does not break map control.

Refer to this gameplay of mine as to why it breaks map control.

Like any one wants to see you double tap Y for 9 minutes.

It gives jetpackers more map control, particularly in maps like Sword base. I suppose they could ambush players too, if their team is coordinated.

But IMO they are like sitting (well, flying, but very exposed) ducks when they're jetpacking lol.

So basically... Waypoint is pro-vanilla?

Posted by: Sentox6
Waypoint isn't pro-anything so much as they're just anti-intelligence.

Get educated.

Take Sanctuary. In MLG, teams have to make a well-coordinated push to gain map control-- first pushing into ring and ultimately into their base/etc in order to get the other team in a bad spawn-- drastically out-slaying the other team in the process. It takes skill, teamwork, and coordination to do so, and players in a forum called "forum tryhards" enjoy this. You're rewarded for being the better team, and the process of gaining map control is never exactly the same. There's so many different permutations of where the enemy might go, or how they might react to certain situations, that this process of trying to gain map control isn't completely boring.

Now let's say this is an Onyx Arena game. How does the other team react to your well-coordinated push to take over ring control? Switch to jetpacks. Suddenly I can now jetpack ridiculously high into the air and shoot down on you from anywhere in the map, completely breaking your map control and even breaking the point of having map control in the first place. Pretty soon these Arena games turn out exactly the same-- everyone on both teams is simply jetpacking and shooting at other players jetpacking.

Or an even worse example is when a jetpacker abuses a soft-kill zone to regain their shield. Let's say we're playing on Kingdom and I have jetpack while you have sprint. You get me one-shot. I merely jetpack onto the roof of one of the four corners of the map, a place only accessible (and further more, only VISIBLE) via the use of a jetpack. So no matter what you do, you can't finish your kill because I'm in an unobtainable area unless you yourself use the jetpack. So guess what this Arena game devolves into? You guessed it, both teams simply jetpack straight into the air every game while shooting at each other.

Obviously it doesn't break the map if the other team is retarded. People don't understand how jet pack can be abused until they play teams of competent Arena players.

This.

Playing against someone competent, who is using Jetpack, will show you that no matter what, whenever you think you're in control, you aren't, and never will be, simply due to jetpack.

Reality is broken.

Also, you're not your stats.

Jet pack is garbage. Give me a real, legit reason that it hasn't ruined Halo.

  • 01.14.2012 11:38 PM PDT

It wouldn't be a big deal if there were only like 2 on every map and of course it was a pick-up obviously. They're pretty cool. But 4 people with them in Arena, at a high competitive level, just gives the middle finger to the map and the control thereof.

I'm sure once you experience gameplay at a high level you'll see what ppl mean.

Once again. I think it's a pretty -blam!- cool addition to the franchise. As a loadout, not so much.

4 people abusing soft killzones against 4 non-jetpackers. Unfair. It railroads the other team into choosing jet-pack and breaks the game making all other loadouts ineffectual by comparison.

Halo: Reach is the beginning of a new age for gaming.
It proves that developers can get away with punishing their players instead of fixing their game....and yet the fanboys will still sing praises to them.

-blam!- all of you fanboys!

Crybaby...

The only reason people like you hate jetpacks is because it makes you have to stay on your toes, instead of feeling all safe an comfortable in your little camping spot.
You know what that is called? BALANCE. What you call map control is actually IMBALANCE. Because your job becomes extremely easy once you attain it. If jetpack makes the job of map control harder...GOOD! That's the way it's supposed to be.

Stfu please.

Look at Shadowrun for instance. I bet you would complain that 'teleport' ruins map control...right? Yeah... SHUTUP!

Sick of games where all people want is to put just enough effort to put the game into cruise control....
and go figure that the effort required to attain it is barely more than what is required once you are in it.

This is NOT directed at the guy directly above me..btw. HE actually has a legitimate complaint against it.
But I think your wrong in thinking it forces them to have to also choose jetpacks. but I could be wrong.

Almost as bad as complaing about Armor Lock, really.
Armor lock makes it harder to spawn kill....take it out...wah!

I actually agree with the OP somewhat.

Jetpack doesn't break map control.

No

What Jetpack does is ascend to a higher plane of existence that map control cannot even see. From that plane the Jetpack then disintegrates the very concept of map control until the player is left wondering why they ever bothered with such a silly idea in the first. They see that map control is worthless before the Jetpack and then the players bend to its will. They use it cautiously at first, but soon they will put their entire trust into the Jetpack and the Jetpack rewards them with kills.

That is what Jetpack does.

Oh and don't forget, the very concept of your complaints against jetpacks goes against all your other complaints about AL/Bloom, etc.

You see. The jetpack SPEEDS UP gameplay.

How you ask?

just watch that video and pay attention to how quickly jetpack puts them right there into battle.
