Subject: Jetpack doesn't break map control

Hi.

Posted by: MR E0S
Oh and don't forget, the very concept of your complaints against jetpacks goes against all your other complaints about AL/Bloom, etc.

You see. The jetpack SPEEDS UP gameplay.
You know what else speeds up gameplay? 300% movement speed.

Would that be a good default addition? No.

Just because people want a certain speed of gameplay doesn't mean that every single thing that could attribute to said speed would be beneficial or desired.

-blam!- all of you fanboys!

Jetpacks are beneficial, and they are cool. Thus they are desired. WTF are you smoking?

Unfortunately, your 300% speed analogy doesn't work because that would just be stupid. And too difficult to hit targets. This isn't Unreal Tournament. And I sure as hell don't ever want to see it go to that frantic of a pace (which 300% movement speed would certainly do)

What I meant was... IF you are battling more than you are walking to find a battle. That is fast gameplay. had nothing to do with how fast people actually run.

Actually Jetpack is definitely not beneficial when it is abused at high level gameplay. Mindless Jetpack rushing is all it is good for. It stops strategies that rely on the layout of the map because Jetapck nullifies all map layouts since none of them account for it existing. That's why no parts of the map have effective Jetpack only cover.

It needs to go.

According to you.

IF your strategy that relies on the layout is trumped by a jetpack. Your strategy sucks, change it.

For the most part I think you underestimate how much the map is actually designed for the jetpack.

And it's also one of those things, if a jetpack is so effective on the level that it trumps everything else.
What are you doing picking anything other than jetpack.
IF it's that effective, it's obviously a jetpack level. Noones going to hate you for picking jetpack like everyone else.

Maybe you should do a little experiment.
IF they all pick jetpacks. Have your entire team pick Armor Lock. Oh wait...they took that out of the game...SORRY! Because you couldn't adapt you lessened your options to play the game.

Hi.

You missed the basis of my argument.

You're asserting that people are being hypocritical because they cite slower gameplay as a negative aspect of Armor Lock, yet Jetpack, under your claim, speeds it up. You can't argue like that; it's a logical fallacy. Again, just because people want faster gameplay doesn't mean that anything that makes gameplay faster is good. That would only be true if the one and only desire was fast gameplay.

That's cool, but I'm not looking for your opinion nor do I respect it.

Your reason my analogy doesn't work is a subjective claim? Uhmm.
Posted by: MR E0S

/off-topic tangent

What I meant was... IF you are battling more than you are walking to find a battle. That is fast gameplay. had nothing to do with how fast people actually run.
If people run faster they will get to encounters faster and the game will play out faster. My analogy works, and if you disagree for the sake of being difficult, I'll switch my analogy - Instead of 300% movement speed, you now have a radar that lets you see enemies at all times. That would surely speed up gameplay. But would it be beneficial? No, that'd ruin the game - just like Jetpacks do.

If you think that jetpack does not break maps, look at this one.
A map broken by jetpacks.
It drove me mad trying to adapt this to work with jetpacks. For more examples, look at the Anniversary maps.

Now tell me that jetpack does not break maps.

how is you trying to use 300% running speed for all players and me relating that to the frantic pace that Unreal tournament off topic. YOU BROUGHT IT UP IDIOT!. I'm just telling you that you argument is stupid. You can break it up and quote it peice by peice all you want. Doesn't take the blame away that you refered speeding up gameplay to directly speeding up the players.

JETPACK does not make players faster and thus harder to hit.
But the jetpack does allow players to shortcut past barriers and get right into battle quicker.

Do you understand yet?

300% movement speed. imagine shooting at targets moving at 300% movement speed. Now imagine shooting at someone who's jetpacking through the air at normal speed.

Do you understand yet?

Learn to debate -blam!-!

Maybe if you had half a brain you'd figure it out.

Slow gameplay = Walking walking walking, finally find someone to shoot at.

Fast gameplay = I'm shooting, I'm shooting, I'm shooting.

Jetpack accomplishes fast gameplay without altering the speed of the players. Which altering the speed of the players is a MAJOR thing. It would completely change what the game is all about. Jetpack does not turn Halo into a Unreal Tournament wannabe. That is why your 300% movement speed comparision is -blam!- dumb!

Hi.

Would an all-time enemy radar benefit the game? It'd speed up gameplay - players would know where the enemies are and get to them much more quickly.

If you say no, you're being hypocritical.

Edit: stop editing the entire worthwhile parts of your post in after you post. Take a breath and slow down a little.

And besides all that, it still comes down a bunch of crybabies pissed off about not being able to be all cozy and comfortable in their awesome camping spot. IT keeps you on your toes and makes you have to continually adapt..

Which you people suck at.

I got a better idea, I'll continue to edit and add to my post.

You need to learn to respond without having quote every step of the way.

Some of you think just cause you can quote and add a sentance that you have something worth saying..

Well you don't! and if you stopped quoting people to fill your post you might realize how little you actually have to say on the subject.

Jetpack allows you to reach hiding spots that'd normally be inaccessible.

Once again, you fail.

And those hiding spots? if they can get to them with a jetpack...why can't you? Obviously it's not that innaccessible under normal circumstances, since jetpacks are available to everyone.

see that, I responded to you for like the 5th time without having to quote you. You should try it.

That way I can actually read what you have to say instead of what I have to say.

Jetpacks being accessible to everyone has nothing to do with everyone's knowledge of hiding spots.

So now map knowledge comes into play? So lets take out everything that might give someone a benefit because they play the map more, and are more knowledgable about it.

Really? You should stop.

Because if we continue to go down this path, Every map is going to be a square box with nothing in it.

Wait, your counter to my argument that jetpacks provide more hiding spots is simply that everyone can get there? You just countered your own post before that. You said that Jetpacks make it so the opposing team can't be comfortable in their camping spots, but you indirectly countered it by implying that everyone can get to those spots.

Stop trying.

EXACTLY, if everyone can get to those spots, your ability to camp that spot is not that secure.. DUH!.

Yes, but everyone can get to non-jetpack camping spots without jetpacks too. Therefore the jetpack does nothing beneficial because the player can already do what you claimed the jetpack does.

You lose.

But they can do it faster with a jetpack.

I can walk the long way (slow gameplay) to remove you from that spot.

Or I can jetpack (fast gameplay) right directly to you and shave about 20 seconds off the time it might take to get around to battling you out of that spot..

Are you this -blam!- retarded that you can't grasp this concept?

Nah, -blam!- it lets just get rid of jetpacks and add 300% movement speed. I'll humor you for a bit, so you can see for yourself how -blam!- dumb you are.

Again, you're trying to say that fast gameplay is the primary concern, which implies that you'd support an all-around radar because it speeds up gameplay.
