I didn't see jack.

Then you must not of read First Strike.

The Spartan II's were completely overrun in every sense of the word.

3 Spartan II's (Fred/Kelly/Joshua) single handily destroyed a Covenant battleship along with a camp of 10,000 Covenant troops.

Another trio of Spartan II's fought their way through thousands of troops to reach Admiral Whitcomb, and then they had to defend that location for weeks.

As detailed in the Halo: Reach radio messages, 11 Spartan II's took on thousands of Covenant troops in a battle and WON.

And most importantly, a small group of Spartan II's survived in Castle base, despite the thousands of troops coming after them.

EVERYTHING detailed in First Strike trumps what the III's went through.

Though to be fair Spartan III's are pretty bad ass and they had less genetic req's (they were volunteers) who some pulled of amazing feats before they were 20

And you have to take into account most IIIs were just kids, in their teens or preteens even. NOBLE Team was fully grown, giving them time to grow into their augmentations - meaning NOBLE Team was most likely the single deadliest group of handpicked warriors the UNSC has ever known. It is really infuriating how much people discredit Noble Team, or try to at the very least.

Remember kids, if it wasn't for them, Master Chief wouldn't be alive, and there would be no Reclaimer Trilogy.

Master Chief is more symbolically heroic than actually badass anyway - that goes to Noble Team and Noble Six IMO.

And what has NOBLE team done for you to even make that assertion? What "credit" do they have to show that?

Master chief would have been dead regardless. The PoA shouldn't have even been there in the first place not to mention for that long.

Well, it was - game canon trumps book canon - so I guess FoR was retconned. And in response to the first part of your post, I think this post by Cmdr DaeFaron would suffice.

Fred, Kelly, and Joshua tossed a nuke into a cruiser, whose wreckage destroyed the entire camp. And they simply flew over all the forces in banshees. Not exactly any more interesting then say Jorge pushing a button and destroying the LNOS. The troops in the camp are simply an addition, they weren't the targets anyway. Edit: Not to mention they lost Joshua in the process.

Do we even have ANY confirmation of that? That those three fought thousands to reach Whitcomb? And that they were under constant attack for weeks? Cause if the Covenant knew where Whitcomb was, they'd be dead. IIRC, they said they had been attacking the Covenant for weeks, not the other way around.

IIRC, those Spartans were backed up by marines and army troopers, and got within the enemy front line which gave them an advantage.

Inside a fortified location where they didn't truly do much large scale fighting. And the first time they did two disappeared pretty quickly.

Nothing was on the scale of trumping the S3 missions. You could place 300 Spartan 2's in SPI, and they would get wiped out in the S3 missions just as easily.

[Edited on 01.16.2012 7:30 AM PST]

You are on the wrong side of the fact train bud. The Spartan IIs were treated as high value soldiers whereas the Spartan IIIs were not; how each class was treated has nothing to do with how effective in combat they were. When you consider, even for a moment, than 300 teenagers in subprime armor managed to kill thousands of Covenant troops - including Sangheili - and complete their mission - not once, but twice - that is a true testament to their combat effectiveness.

If those "kids" had MJOLNIR armor and an actual means of exfil, they would not have had 100% casualties.

Couldn't have said it better myself, I admit. Drawing from this what we know and making an educated assumption we can assume Noble Team were exceptional among their active duty peers. Why else would they have been given such high pay grades?

Bungie disregarded canon when making Reach. It's no surprise.

They didn't disregard it insomuch as they changed a couple details and preconceptions. You can ride the horse of "Bungie destroyed canon" all day long, but it doesn't make it a winning horse.

We can also easily say 343 has disregarded canon because they haven't decried Reach as "non-canon".

Hahahaha, oh my god. You will never say anything bad about Reach will you? You blindly are in love with Reach.

Oh, that reminds me. What happened in that other thread? Oh, that's right. Every time you lose an argument or get proven wrong, you just leave because you cannot admit you're wrong. Pathetic.

I can show you show Bungie did not destroy canon as you so inaccurately loudmouth all day long.

They are special. They were removed from their companies and given mjolnir armor...although im a bit fuzzy on the details. Im sure someone out there has a more detailed answer

The UNSC needed more Spartan IIs. They made do with Noble.

They sure did destroy the Awe that the original halo had once you took that everything happened by chance.
They changed it to Halsey somehow knowing there was something important at that location and the PoA was suppose to go there, which wasn't the original canon.

And please explain to me how the PoA was able to get past hundreds of ships in orbit, sit at a drydock for a time while said ships are bombing the planet, and somehow avoid said hundred ships again?

Not to mention that the PoA was nothing but a skeleton at that point held intact by the structure of the ship. Don't even get me started on how that CCS could have destroyed the PoA if it honestly needed to.

That entire part was a crock along with the Halsey BS.

Even in the novel, how did the PoA escape with hundreds of ships in space? Luck, I would argue, and I would say the same thing about the game version. Hundreds of UNSC ships were destroyed in the novel, but apparently the Autumn was one of the surviving ships.

I personally think that this 'Luck' is divine intervention passed on from Noble Six to Master Chief after his death. Or, it might've been Cortana, and that Cortana is in and of herself a personification of Halsey's guiding mother-like spirit and mind, because if you notice Noble Six dies after he relinquishes Cortana to Keyes, and Master Chief's luck follows him throughout his life as he takes on the role of Courier of Cortana. If you notice most of HER actions are the reason Humankind still exists; warning Chief of the Flood, providing critical Covenant intel, tracking Regret, staying behind to gain intel on High Charity which later proved critical to Master Chief destroying it, and not to mention saving the index from the first Halo ring, without which Master Chief would not have been able to destroy the Ark or stall the Flood.

Plasma you are friggin kidding me.

Originally Halo was found because cortana took the orders to preform a random slipspace jump as a chance to use the sigma crystal's coordinates. This was stated in "The Flood".

In Halo Reach that is changed to Halsey knowing a "Game changer" was located within the crystal and the UNSC had to get there as a ditch attempt to win the war. It completely robbed The Idea that you were their by some cosmic chance;a devils game. Now it is reduced to "Oh we already knew about it" Which would take the mystery out of it had i just started playing.

Because the PoA Left After fighting whatever type of ship they did...

This is why i am always saying "you don't understand what i am talking about". Which i hate doing because i don't want to sound rude.

First off bungie Hasn't been in control of Canon since Halo 3, Reach was the last thing they touched. 343 has long been in control and says Everything=All canon.

Do you even understand where that term applies to? When we have a conflict Game canon takes place over the books, which in this case makes it worse.

No.

Game Canon does NOT trump book canon. That statement was made when Bungie controlled the Halo franchise, and as stated, all statements they made regarding canon are now obsolete.

343 and Frankie have specifically stated that the Novels and Games are on the same level of canon. There is no longer a hierarchy.

I don't remember specifics, it's been a long time since I read FS, but I remember them saying they had a hell of a time getting there, and Fred didn't want to let them go in the first place because Whitcomb gave away his position and would be crawling with Covenant forces.

The Spartan Location would have been known those weeks they were stranded in that little bunker.

And that is the reason the Spartan II's should always win the spartan II's vs Spartan's III's thread. III"s were suicide troopers, II's killed the enemy in effective ways.

Posted by: privet caboose
They were apparently the "best of the best" and became a special squad for the Spartan III's that went on various spec ops missions. They were given MJOLNIR armor since they weren't considered suicide troopers like the rest of the III's.

The first point, no, just.....no. There was a long-winded thread about this a few days back. The reality is, they're just as capable soldiers.

The second point, I agree with, because NOBLE team proved themselves to be superior soldiers, and were thus given superior (and sometimes experimental) equipment in the field.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions which cannot be "proven wrong."

Funny, Grey is already proving you wrong. You have to be blind not to see the canon breaks. Two, "loudmouth all day" ... um, didn't know stating that Reach broke canon was loud mouthing. How can you even loud mouth on a forum? Lol. I never even use caps lock nor do I ever have the intention of "loud mouthing." Three, you know nothing of our other discussion. It wasn't even a matter of opinions. Mkay? So, you can scurry along now.

Time of the month again heh?
