Bots, another idea I hate. I get the feeling that you people aren't ever going to agree with me though. I'll simply say that a bot will never be able to emulate a decent human player.
So the -blam!- what? Ever hear of SSBM, it has bots that do a pretty good job, and while it's a given that it is far less complex, I think Bungie will be able to program decent bots with the extra time they have. I think it would be awesome so you could practice without having to be on Live or have another player present, so it's an advantage for everyone.
You're comparing simple bots from a beat em up to a complex AI required to emulate human ingenuity in combat? Not a good choice. Tell me, how would you go about telling a bot to do even 1/3 of the jumps on Lockout? How about jumping up onto a small ledge to get at the sniper from behind? You simply can't do it, even though Bingie may have some of the best AI coders, you simply can't do it.
thats not entirely true, the elder scrolls 3: morrowind has mods that allow NPCs to jump gaps, it tells them that if theres not an acceptable landing spot, not to do it. now since morrowinds AI and Scripts are INCREDIBLY simple compared to something that halo might have i honestly think with a little time bungie could do the exact same thing, seeing as how they use something which is far more capable. halo 1 and 2 may have no hope of it, but 3 sure as hell does, especially since it has all new hardware to run on,most of the AI problems from the first 2 were hardware related, not code. the 360s hardware allows for a lot more things, including more advanced AI. to be honest there are a lot of games that allow for random paths to be taken, and intentional ones to be used based on obstacles, danger levels and who needs to die the most. they are all on the PC, however im sure the 360 can handle the ai involved in those.
