You guys are doing it the hard way. I used to go through and enter everything manually, but there is an easier way if things mess up.
First is it routed?
If it is, your computer and xbox should not have access to the internet.
1: What happens sometimes, is that the signals get crossed up, so the modem and the dns are not contacting each other correctly and are sending false info back and forth. Your modem is (so long as it is on) always sending info back and forth (the two flashing lights on some modems indictate this). When it says dns not found (webpage or xbl troubleshoot) you can decide to call up your ISP and they will give you a complete new set of directories. The problem is, all computers and routers are different so they (ISP) will not help you. You can try to find out where everything is inserted by checking your manual to your router and ISP. This is the long way.
2: What I do when it happens: Leave everything on automatic, your computer and xbox. Next, shut down your computer, xbox, modem (some have buttons, but you can unplug them too), next shut down your router (same thing). Since things get corssed up and overheated, they mess up. Once you turn your router and then modem back on after a few minuntes (1/2 hour at the most) the router and the modem will signal to each other and will get the correct settings by themselves. Your computer should work automatically, if the xbox does not, go to troubleshoot, or network settings (change to automatic) and let the rest take care of itself.
If you are not routed, just turn off your modem and let it cool down for awhile. Then start it back up, and it should work. Make sure you have the right password and account set up in your netwrok settings, check your manual.
It also depends on how old your router is. I had a real poor one which went down every week or so. Spend the extra money (I have a D-link 2.4GhzWireless Broadband Router) and it will never happen again.
