Subject: Does SWAT Take Skill?

And so God called Moses to come forth but he came fifth and was therefore disqualified.

Please do not be too quick to answer this with "NO".

Here's the thing.

I think that is does take skill, to be able to get a headshot before the other guy. I think it pits skill against skill.

However, on the other hand, you get games like this where you just own noobs.

What do you think?

Opinions are like butholes. Everyone's got one, nobody wants to hear about it.

Just a little.

Yes

Yes, SWAT does take skill. Knowing when to sprint and when not to sprint takes skill and that is just a minor part of SWAT. Telling the difference between a team mate sprinting up behind you and an enemy takes skill. Knowing when to slow your cadence, while bullets fly at you, so you can fire an accurate headshot takes skill. Quickly and accurately firing headshots takes skill. Knowing where to position yourself takes skill.

  • 01.15.2012 11:24 AM PDT

I would say it takes a lot more reaction time than normal settings, but a little less skill.

Hell no.

So far no one that said "no" has actually given a reason.

Yes, because who see's who first obviously requires some sort of skill.

The one thing that annoys me about swat is host advantage, there is nothing worse than a trigger happy host with his guest who just spams the trigger and wins every single gun fight.

1. Why would you let yourself be seen by the enemy while you can't see them?

2. So you never miss a shot?

Forget it man, and get with the countdown. Shake this square world and blast off for Kicksville.

Reach host ranking algorithm: (a*quit_percentage + b*isMexican + c*(1/KDR) + d*hasGuest) * 100
where a > b = d > c

Relative to slayer? No.

Bad kids with great connections can run it (or at least trade almost constantly).

Reach has generous aim assist and bullet magnetism, meaning it's not at all hard to get headshots in the first place. Combine this with the grace period for kill trades and there's not a big skill gap.

Map control is not as important, because you can break setups much easier, and weapon control is no longer even needed at all. Teamshooting becomes virtually redundant as well.

Effectively, a large number of skills that are part of a Halo slayer match are stripped out in favour of reflexes and connection.

Spawning behind enemies.

Not in SWAT

  • 01.15.2012 11:40 AM PDT

On one side, it stresses reaction time and making the initial headshot.

On the other, ZB calls for consistency to your shots and it isn't as easy to score a kill.

Point is, SWAT does take some skill (you can't be sauntering around and letting people make the first shot) but ZB or even default call for the same skill.

1 bullet=2 headshots

i think it does take skill, because you have to get the headshot before the person your fighting does. its takes skill to aim and get a 1-shot kill, to know whether its an enemy or a teammate around the corner or behind you, to get that triple-kill to save your team, when to aim when rounding a corner, or to know when to run around or walk and crouch. it all takes some common knowledge, but for the most part, it takes skill.

Setups are actually harder to break in SWAT IMHO. When you respawn you have about a quarter of a second to kill the enemy watching your spawn zone. There is no moving to cover. You spawn, swipe and shoot almost instantaneously with perfect accuracy or you die.

About removing team shotting, yes SWAT does remove the aspect of teamshot, but I like that. It places more emphasis on individual skill rather than team skill.

So to summarize, team skill is shown through setups and communication while individual skill is shown through each encounter with the enemy.

Obviously I'm not talking about maps so broken that you can maintain actual line of sight to all spawn points.

This is where the argument goes off the rails.

As I explained (but you handily ignored in my original post), the individual skill gap is quite low in SWAT. Aim assist is generous. Bullet magnetism is generous. The grace period for kill trades is generous. A good connection is a bigger advantage that it is in slayer.

By definition, 5shotting an actively strafing player is more work than one-shotting someone. So what takes more skill? Having faster reflexes or having consistent accuracy and the ability to simultaneously strafe effectively?

its basically just reflexes or who sees who first. in other words, cod. the least skilled 4v4 playlist imo, lower than certain action sack games.
