Also, what is an MMO? Thanks.

Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO).

Some MMO games for your reference -

1. World of Warcraft
2. Star Wars: The Old Republic
3. Guild Wars 2
4. Lord of the Rings Online
5. Age of Conan: Unchained
6. Aion
7. EVE Online (soon to combine with Dust514 on PS3 & PC)

I have never played anything like any of these games even though i know World of Warcraft has a massive following. Are Most of these games for PC? If something like this got started on xboxlive i would try it. Thanks for the info Oddley.

Yep, PC based. I really don't play PC anymore since Diablo II days. Consoles are just more convenient and I spend all my work day on PC's so I don't want to be on them at night. Also my PC's are for work not play.

No worries, glad to see you're open to new game types.

Thanks mate, I think it would be the "bite off more than we can chew" that Bungie is famous for. I also feel this is what is bigger than Halo and the reason Bungie bought themselves back from Microsoft.

I also believe for the next 10 years many of these features have to be in there from the ground level. If the framework, engine and mechanics aren't fleshed out now then it's far too troublesome to add in later.

I'm surprised Bungie.net is full of Halo chatter and little to do with speculation on their new game IP.

What's with that?

Because we know NOTHING of thier new IP yet.

Sure game mechanics, story and such elements we know nothing but we do know a few tidbits -

1. Multiplatform, confirmed by Bungie engineers in article interviews.

2. Planet side and space faring. The ViDoc shows on planet with the futurist windmill and the quotes "see you starside".

3. Player input will overtake the developer input.

4. The lighting and colour is downright amazing from the last 3 minutes of ViDoc.

5. The entire studio have been developing this for years already.

6. It's being designed to be bigger than Halo.

7. A new economy system is being designed and implemented at player level and universe level.

We haven't gotten any teases from Bungie. We're getting craploads of teases from 343i about Halo 4. Hell, they're even releasing concept art this month! What has Bungie given us? Some text.

Not excited about Halo 4. Halo Reach was the end for me.

I am your sword and shield to guide you through countless battles. I am your Alpha and Omega; beginning and end. I am GAMMA.

Just some thoughts on this, I've noticed quite a few people comparing their latest project to MMO's. If they do decide to integrate an MMO style into an fps game, especially with drop in and out style gameplay like Fable games have done in the past, that would be awesome. My only fear is that they do what all MMO's do, where (this is if they include pvp) you have to dump countless hours into the game just survive a few seconds of pvp against someone who has.

The thing that made me fall in love with Bungie was that with Halo, a sergeant could kill a general: And not because one had better weapons or perks, but because the player's skill was the main factor

One thing no one has talked about is an FPSRTS. I believe it is still possible, considering the numpad is vastly underused

My personal take on this is a separate game that is still integrated in real time back to the single universe will provide the RTS elements.

Very similar to how Eve Online & Dust 514 works.

This way they can build the framework now and develop/sell as a separate game but always using the same fan base and universe.

I also replied in another thread that Bnet, iPhones (Smartphones) and iPad (tablets) could provide a RTS game version back to the universe.

Essentially leaving the consoles for FPS/MMO and the devices/websites to RTS/MMO without the FPS portion.

I was agreeing but i look at something different a lively map where territories are lost and gain and you need to win them, or finish your mission in an open world. Stopping to gain a territory could get you some benefits like more weapons or vehicles later on and the longer they survive the more advanced tech you get there. But the harder and more defended the final objective is.

Not only that you can have ability to get a couple of soldiers or units like tanks etc. to join you and in engagement you can cycle through them and point in area in map to send them, or who to concentrate fire upon.

You could also have uav version where you can plan out maneuvers and later during battle have them take place but you can overide them, by having them do something else or canceling them, during engagements.

i keep thinking this as well, but in real time. imagine you fighting the war in first person while someone on lets say an ipad is giving commands to the ai units you are fighting.

I'm about as shocked as you are. The first time I get back on B.net in five months and it's still nothing but Halo chat.

This halo.xbox.com post is relevant to the new Bungie game and speculation about gameplay features.

Originally I posted a slightly different version from below about Halo 4, however, I've modified the speculation to suit this thread and idea of a single persistent universe...

Combine a mini-RTS system like Halo Wars buildings and researching with multiplayer or invasion etc.

Imagine instead of finding weapon or vehicle or teammate spawns you and your team have to deploy or secure a home/base and then use a sped up or simplified version of Halo Wars bases/research. Your team would have a starting default abilities, weapons, buildings, vehicles or whatever is relevant to Bungie's new game universe/sandbox but then have to develop a more complex abilities, weapons or vehicles as you go.

Imagine capturing enemy territories, buildings, goals or possibly using them to speed up your own technology research.

Sort of like invasion combined with Halo Wars and minified into a FPS multiplayer experience.

This would also open up MMO player traits, XBL achievements, in-depth player customisations and more.

If this is tied back to the theory about players drive the content post game release or DLC downloads then this type of mini-RTS or mini-Forge in real-time would form the basis for universe creation.

The universe and player content would thus become endless with a friend/foe between players or alliances/clans etc.

Umm... LOL Random forge tagging boost...
A taste for the future...
Link Player to player with option for 4-8 man staged evolutionary environment/ player upgrade. Think of combining Halo wars building upgrades to player with a necessary evironment upgrade happening soon after. Obvious use of other players linked on a timeline based teamwork building system.
Core values achieved!
Yayyyy!
I Love You!!!
(Level change seems option thats most ovious. Include special tag searching for these posts say with minum 5 maximum 12 of said upgrades. ;}.)

Good show old boy! And the special tag combined with a party leader specific world generator tag provides an obvious "world builder Platform. Include multiple Lead World generation types per server for gamptype variance.
Checkpoint reached.
Promises ;)

Obvious use of previous posts combined with necessary intrapersonal teamwork base fixes many possible problems.
also suggest use of possible 50-50 level spash gen. suggest spash ratio be expressed in forged player supplied splash barrier expressed based on a level building rule requirement for forge smart style mix beta teser system. think of the ultimate in team forging. suggest 1-7 possible portions divided using a smart counting system as a base start and optinal portion quantity menu selection possible from pregame menu. Hey. this is fun.
