Subject: Community, do you want more incentive to invest in a single account?

Roll the dice, try again.

I feel that investing in a single account on bungie.net doesn't have much worth to it. Other websites I visit, there is usually privileges that are unlocked or access to the user. These can be many different things like having polls, custom avatar, colored text, joining groups etc.

Sure, if you spend enough time frequenting these forums on Bungie.net, you get a cool looking title and might even become a moderator. But someone that just joined bnet on an alt account has the same privileges as another member that has been here for 7+ years.

I don't know when the next site update is, but I think there should be a bigger reward and added incentive to investing into a single account.

Just my thoughts.

To Make Posts is Glorious

Some threads will get posts before others and it is the duty of the Leadership to ensure that posts are made that best suit the public welfare.

"heh"

The user should be rewarded through discussion. Artificial gifts like these, while nice, wouldn't do much to further discussion standards.

Who the hell do you think I am?

I actually think it's best that all normal users have equal access to the functions on this site.

If I am not posting, then I am reading what you might have posted.

I understand.

But we are only here to discuss matters of what is going on with bungie. (and various other things that matter...) I don't think we should even be rewarded for anything, being a member of bungie.net is more than enough for me.

I see what you're saying.

It's like starting a new job and learning from the other guy who has been there for a few years. Over their time, they have acquired hidden privileges whether they know it or not. Maybe getting to work a few minutes later isn't such a big deal to their boss. If their numbers are off by X amount, the rules are less forced upon them, just because they're a trusted employee.

I like that users on Bungie.net have the same privileges across the board (excluding mods and employess). But I do feel that something should be addressed for investing time into a single account.

I lurk the flood and Reach forums quite often and it's easy to spot a "troll" account. So I PM a moderator and they handle it. If there was more incentive for time invested, I feel that people would watch what they post more often. Instead of just posting "idk", they wouldn't even respond at all unless they have something to add to the discussion.

No matter what forum you visit, there will always be users that do this. It's the internet. People are going to find loop holes around whatever system, even if there is incentive to "unlock privileges" like you mentioned.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

Bungie.net just isnt and proboly won't ever have a forum that is like all the others. They never have much flag when it comes to an account. I kind of prefer it the way it is as opposed to other sites.

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

I would like there to be more incentive to use a single account. If people cared about their accounts more, there would be less alts and spam and trolls.

I don't think we can actually achieve that by using titles or similar criteria to award users with other benefits. The title system doesn't really work well enough to warrant it being used to dole out benefits. It would sort of work if the benefits weren't anything particularly valuable or exclusive. Though, useless rewards would not really change how things are done when compared to now. They'd be more hats, which could be useful, but won't change anything for the better int he long run.

I don't know how Bungie can or will give us more incentive to use only one account, and to give any kind of value to those accounts. Rewards would be a way, but I don't think it would work thew way we want it to. I guess we'll just have to leave it to the webteam to figure out if its possible, and if they can implement it.

I think if we stay with one account long enough Bungie should send us a pony.

I have seen you future

The problem with limiting privileges of newer members would be that it would just make B.net less fun for anyone new, so they would be less likely to stick around. So, you are stuck giving out more hats, and while hats are nice and encourage investment, I don't think they are the golden carrot you are looking to dangle in front of people to make them behave.

Back when the Reach beta was coming up, I suggested that Bungie reward its faithful members with free beta passes, the criteria being that the member was Legendary or above.

I would advocate a slightly different policy with the Destiny betas: Fabled Mythics and above get free beta passes, maybe even alpha passes. It is, after all, a newer game, and we don't want to give a sneek peek to too many people at once.

I was a finalist :P

Incentives should be given to someone who performs to a certain task (and is seen doing so), without them having need for certain parametric requirements like age. The rewards given should be available to everyone and not a certain faction - all they have to do is show they meet the fair requirements given.

I guess you could have specific incentives for age-bearing users, but you can't simply limit the incentives to this group alone (eg: > 3 years). I wouldn't want to see incentives given to specific titles, however, as that goes completely against the system - shifting titles into some form of rank on the site.

[*Please note that anything in my posts is likely to be filled with sarcasm, and should be taken with a pinch of salt. I tend to help people, usually*]

The biggest incentive I have for having only this account is the idea of identity. I'm not one for the whole Anonymous persona thing.

If there's a way to enhance identity to a higher degree, then I'm all for it. One of the more obvious examples of this is Gamertag linking, and therefore an entire statistical background to you for your games, but beyond that there isn't much else to go on other than your posts and general community stigma.

I don't know if it's necessarily rewards that we could do with, but things that make us stand out as individuals in a community.

So I definitely like titles, avatars and the like, but they would never truly be a proper individualistic thing. It's a hard itch to scratch, this one.

Perhaps we'll see some sort of in-game screenshot or avatar creator on a higher level than emblems in Destiny. That could be cool. In fact, extend the idea of your multiplayer character to be your entire profile for Bnet too (in terms of title, avatar, etc).

I don't know, just rambling. I do think that identity is key here. If Bungie can find a way to make us all feel like special unique snowflakes, then I can only see positive things come out of it.

They kind of did this for the Halo 3 beta. Why this didn't do this for the reach beta is beyond me. But hey whatever.

I suspect llamas are secretly wizards. I <3 poptarts n' milk. I like me. Grimick is defined as: a logical parodox, the act of funnaling a potato down your throat, and a deliciously flavored muffin (with pecons and blueberries). Norway is the Swedish word for 'moron'. My sister has cancer, so i get to use handicap parking and cut small children in line at Disneyland.

"Don't eat doughnuts on thin ice."

"The pancake, my friend, has officially been flipped."

You can only have your GT linked to one account. That's good enough for me, but on top of that there is also the title system (which is a cherry on top really) and then the sense that you are really part of the community. I like it when people know me well enough that my posts mean just a little bit more and are a bit more personal.

Disagreed. Giving users unlockable "enhancements" for the site gives them something to strive to achieve and a reason to behave themselves.

The problem with limiting privileges of newer members would be that it would just make B.net less fun for anyone new, so they would be less likely to stick around.
Then make the progress to unlocking privileges visible to allow people to see when they're going to unlock something new. Perhaps even give them hints or instructions on how to unlock things.

Additionally, to discourage the use of alternate accounts to bypass blacklists, when caught, both accounts should be reset to having no privileges at all, or having a chunk of privileges taken away.

“Oh, it’s a little bit of everything, it’s the mountains, it’s the fog, it’s the news at six o’clock, it’s the death of my first dog, it’s the angels up above me, it’s the song that they don’t sing, It’s a little bit of everything.”
- Dawes, A little bit of everything

No, if someone wants a new face they can always go to a plastic surgeon with a moderately sized wheelbarrow of money.

EDIT: I see the arguments for this, and I think my opinion has been swayed slightly. I can see how a system like this could prove beneficial to the site, but I wouldn't want it to be too extreme. But I am not one to come up with a good system whereby users would stick with a single account, there must be others out there who can come up with this. Personally, I think the titles are a good attempt (even if that wasn't the intent).
