If you can't bump, what do you do if your thread isn't getting any replies?

  • 01.15.2012 8:09 PM PDT

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

Who the hell do you think I am?

Nevermind that.

Bumping is considered spam.

If I am not posting, then I am reading what you might have posted.

Repost it later on. Bumping not a loud because some people bump threads that don't benefit anyone and go on and on.

You can bump it once if it hasn't gone anywhere, but otherwise bumping is considered spam.

Posting misleading information is also prohibited.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

Reserving posts for new info =/= bumping

That is like you have an 18,000 character count OP and it needs 2 posts. But you IMMEDIATENESS add the second post and you should be good.

Wait... What? If you're saying I was attempting to mislead the OP, then those were not my intentions.

You aren't allowed to bump at all, chip. Where'd you hear that?

Ok, well I heard that if the thread hasn't gotten any replies, then you can just reply to it once to get it up, like it got off the first page with no replies. But I don't know...

I guess I was wrong. I'm sorry!

I suspect llamas are secretly wizards. I <3 poptarts n' milk. I like me. Grimick is defined as: a logical parodox, the act of funnaling a potato down your throat, and a deliciously flavored muffin (with pecons and blueberries). Norway is the Swedish word for 'moron'. My sister has cancer, so i get to use handicap parking and cut small children in line at Disneyland.

"Don't eat doughnuts on thin ice."

"The pancake, my friend, has officially been flipped."

Threads die when it is their time. Bumping it to keep it alive is annoying to the people who aren't posting in it. If you want your thread to stay alive make it a good thread or spark an interesting discussion. Bumping a thread that nobody else likes is spam.

Key

People obviously don't care about your thread if it isn't getting replies.

It's like if you got a bad grade on a math test but continued to shove the test on the teacher's desk for re-grading... expecting a different result.

Make a better thread.
First reply hit the nail on the head.

I love how people simply cannot fathom the possibility that their topic wasn't interesting enough to be discussed. Clearly there is something wrong with the situation if there haven't been any replies.

The vast majority of people don't give a -blam!- about MLP. In all honesty, that excuse for why a topic "didn't work" is silly.

Bottom line: If you make it to page 2 without a reply, forget about it and think of a better thread at a later date.

..... You make a new one.... Haven't you realized that by now?

I just wish they would warn a first time offender... Coming from many sites that allow bumping and then getting banned with no warning on here is harsh...

Well you just move on. If you bump your thread, you're just spamming.

One could argue that the official forum rules should be considered your first warning.

It's concidered spam. And honestly, we can all agree it's annoying.

Sometimes if your thread isn't going anywhere and you have a question about something that it isn't that big a deal if you bump but there are some things you need to know before doing something like this:

What I mean by a question I mean a legitimate question about something on this site like a bug or help finding something. You also have to remember that bumping a thread brings it to the top of the page subsequently pushing all the others down.

If you decide to take your chances and bump your thread make sure you aren't posting things like "bump, bump4hottopic, etc." that's the fastest way to get yourself warned or even banned. If I ever deem it necessary to bump my own thread (which is isn't often because I hardly make threads) I usually state what something in the OP say "sorry for the double post but...."

Necrobumping on the other hand is (in my eyes) a completely different story, I've only seen one case where the person didn't get banned... but a custom title was given, but don't get your hopes up if you do that because I guarantee that won't happen again.

Now lets recap here. I'm in no way, shape, or form endorsing going around and double posting to bump your threads whenever you see fit; because lets face it, it is considered spam and it is ultimately up to the moderators to take action if they think something is worth a time-out. Keep those things in mind next time you think you want to bump your thread.

So.. how about this.

You make a topic but for some reason you need to get off the computer. A few hours later you come back to look up your 3-5 hour old thread and notice that there are a few replies that you could reply to.

Not really a 'bump' for the sake of replies, but to continue a conversation that was happening. Or starting a new one.

Is that allowed?

I may or may not of done that in the past, so I might've presumed as long as you're posting something worth while, it's okay.

  • 01.16.2012 10:20 AM PDT

Could someone clear this up for me? Is bumping only deemed bumping when the thread creator posts a post which is directly after another post by them? Replying to a post later when the topic is no longer in plain view (overnight) couldn't possibly be considered bumping and a bannable offense by itself, could it?
