Subject: Why is bumping against the rules?

Could someone clear this up for me? Is bumping only deemed bumping when the thread creator posts a post which is directly after another post by them? Replying to a post later when the topic is no longer in plain view (overnight) couldn't possibly be considered bumping and a bannable offense by itself, could it?
Bumping is making a post with the clear intent just to move your thread to the top of the front page without adding any real discussion.

I.E. Quoting someone and just saying "yeah" or making a post saying "these are good responses guys! keep it up!" or just saying "bump".

Ah, thanks for clearing that up for me!

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.
/slow clap for respect

:)
The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

It's against the rules.

You can always bump your thread as long as you were not the last poster, though.

Lets say you post a thread. and it doesn't go anywhere and it moves to the second page. You find your thread, and then post right under the OP with "bump" or anything like that. That's what can be bannable. You're more than welcome to post in your own thread, in fact Bungie encourages you to.

Why are you reading my signature? Who actually opens these things and reads them!

And as always, SEND ME A PM. Please. Or really bad things will happen to you.

It should be noted that contributing to the conversation of your own thread is not bumping. So if you strategically contribute to your thread you can avoid bumping and still get several pages worth of replies.

There's a cut off period though. God knows what that it however.

I've been banned before because I replied to my thread which was on the second page in the Flood (On a slow day)

Yes, there're too many numbers in my name.

If everyone was allowed to bump, threads would always stick to the top of the page, and we'd see nothing new. Or at least as often as we normally would.

Purely, bumping is just spam. And I hate spam.

I am talking about not having your posts back to back. And what you did was bumping your thread, like I said on page 1 is up to the mods discretion.

Who said anything about my posts being back to back? I was replying to another user.
