Spawning with a utility weapon such as the DMR doesn't limit people's potential like AR starts does. It's much harder to control the map's spawns when the other team has effective weapons and can kill you off their spawn if you're not careful. With AR starts, getting caught in a spawn trap is absolutely brutal.

Here's how most AR starts games play out: both teams rush for the power weapons and fight for map control while picking up DMRs/NRs along the way. One team loses the rush and all of their weapons. They spawn in the open, the other team proceeds to destroy them while they're trying to AR from across the map.

This. You can't defend yourself off of spawn, let alone pick up a DMR or NR, if you're getting spawn trapped by the other team. All they have to do is win the opening rush and then they've won the match.

AR starts just shouldn't exist.

While I agree AR starts are intermittently pointless, they have Magnums. Now, you see, if DMR starts had Magnums, I'd completely agree. However, the design of DMR starts was to give a 'skilled' weapon and then a weapon where people could just lean on classic spray and pray. In other words, on both starts the design dedicates one weapon, the Assault Rifle, for 'the less skilled' portion. This may sound somewhat superficial or elitist, but it seems to make sense.

Moreover, the Assault Rifle is usually never placed on maps as spare ammunition, instead having the enemy provide the ammo for a weapon most people are inclined to disposing of anyway. If they wouldn't be on starting loadouts, they would not be anywhere, and such a unique cover weapon as the Assault Rifle is usually never ignored like say, a Spiker or Plasma Rifle.

Because Halo is based around having a utility from the start. Having but a niche weapon is unacceptable, and not everyone can use Reach's Magnum well.

The point is, if we only have DMR starts, we'd be losing the precious Magnum. And few maps ever spawn that divine weapon.

I'm the cult of personality,
I call it like i see it, if i feel the need to be blunt and to the point, then i will, if i feel the need to be very detailed, i will, im here to stay and im here to do things my way, if you respect that or not is your choice, not mine,
and don't worry, while i don't agree with everyone's opinion, i do respect everyone's opinion.

AR starts is similar to how halo 3 players played except without halo 3's signature map control, strategy, and balance,

having AR starts makes people decide if they want to just use the pistol or go get a better weapon, with the DMR this simply doesn't happen.

plus i assume most people don't care what weapons starts is and just vote for the maps they like regardless of the gametype.

Im an advocate for DMR starts, but its just because im lazy and dont want to race and have to beat my team to pick one up.

I don't like it. It really ruins big open maps with its 3x scope. Now if it was nerfed down to 2x, I'd be ok with it.

My problems [with Reach] are basically just full parties, mlg, and people who go out of their way not to get killed.

What is this?

Halo 2 > Halo 3 > Halo 3 ODST > Halo Reach > Halo CE

Based on campaigns.

I find it more fun and I'm better with it

Agreed. All the changes are good and add variety. Do we really want another Halo 3? Just running around with one gun and no armor abilities? It's good that 343 wants to try something new. Do we really want the same thing for three more games?

Takes more skill than the AR.
