Are you asking that where you shoot matters in terms of damage from the DMR?
It does work like that I suppose.
As we all (should) know, the game relies on hit boxes surrounding the player model. Boxes that surround parts of the player. Hit the box with a bullet, it does a set amount of damage.
If an opponent is unshielded, and you shoot them in the head, then they die. Anywhere else, they take same damage as any other body part (a bullet to the foot is equivalent to a bullet to the hand).
If by effectively you mean going for only headshots?
Not quite.
A bullet to the head on a shielded target will to the same amount of damage as a bullet to the chest (assuming you aren't using a sniper rifle).
So if you must, just take the first 4 shots and be sure to hit anywhere on the body. The fifth one is the one that counts (go for the head).
